Rune Page Reset to defaults in Champion Select

In champ select, if the last player selects their champion while i am creating my rune page... I am automatically closed out of rune select and switched to a default rune page. In my last game i was unable to revert to the runes i wanted and i also missed trading champs because i was trying to change away from the default runes.

This was apparently a bug from long ago - see link attached.
