I haven't earned a chest in a few days but my chest earning counter went from 2 left and a few hours before I can earn another, to 3 left and 6 days before I can earn another, but I haven't unlocked a chest at all in days. Have nothing in my inventory but a key fragment and that's all I've had for the last week.

The number of chest listed is how many you can earn before they stop. You get one more slot each week. So if you earned 4 chests in a row, one slot will return every week, and you can't earn a chest until at least one slot is available. The number of days until the next chest, is the number of days until the next slot fills. When a slot fills, it will go back to 6 days, and 23 hours, and it will start counting down until the next one. If there are non-gray chests shown, you can earn one.
