Homeguard buff for free

I was playing as Katarina using the kitty kat skin. I started boots and four pots, and then rushed ludens, it took a while to get the gold as i never got a kill or assist in lane, but in the course of one back i completed the Ludens and sorc-boots in one back and then for the rest of the game i had homeguards but never bought the upgrade
