mid-game game cancel and no reboot

I was in the middle of a game and my ping jumped to 500 when I was having no internet issues. so I decided to reload the game but when I hit exit it put me back to the main game lobby and did not recognize that a game was still in progress. I tried exiting the client totally but when I logged back in I was still not able to get into game and infact was able to join another game with there being no history of the game I had been in a momnt prior.
