[CLIENT] Accept Game Visual Freeze/ Missing Friends List/ Chat Connect/ Can't Repair/ Can't Download

Since recent updates I have encountered a multitude of bugs that I have never had before. None of the repairs that I have found online/in previous forum posts have worked. I will list them each below with an additional list of fixes I've attempted at the bottom.

Bugs [CLIENT] Accept Game Visual Freeze When accepting/declining to play a game the visual freezes and I am unable to continue without restarting the program. I can hear the audio cues for pick/bans and character selection in the background but I am unable to see it. The bug continues seemingly forever, the longest I tested was 35 minutes.

[CLIENT] Missing Friends List The right portion of the main screen is completely blank with only a light teal/blue background showing. In addition, I am unable to invite friends to game via the lobby.

[CLIENT] Chat Connecting I am unable connect to chat in the lobby, champ select, and post game. I have no issues with chat in-game.

[CLIENT] Can't Repair/Download The main league download and hextech repair both encounter the same error. After around 10 seconds of running they encounter the process already running error.

Attempted Fixes Reinstallation After encountering multiple bugs I tried to reinstall league(as admin). Since the main installer was having issues I used the alternate installer I found from https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/help-support/VQHipfF6-i-cant-install-league-of-legends

Hextech Repair Encountered the listed bug where it said the process was already running. Nothing else was running in task manager.

Folders The only fix I found for the friends list issues was to get rid of some folders. Restarting/Firewall/User Account/WIFI I have tried multiple accounts/removing my firewall completely/restarting the computer in various modes with various different internet connections and had no luck.

Here is the response I received from my support ticket. I hope this can help anyone experiencing similar issues.

Response The problem with the blank friends list is something our engineers have been working to fix. This has also causing issues in champ select and post game lobby chat. I'd recommend checking out the Server Status Page for more details. There's a few workarounds we have found that should help. In champ select if if ever freezes or gets stuck on the "accept/decline" screen that's usually caused by a firewall or antivirus blocking League. This can sometimes be caused by a bad connection, so we will need to try a few steps to narrow this down.

As for the "process already running" error, this may be due to a program blocking League or the installer doesn't have proper permissions.

Let's start with some basic steps for now, then we can gather logs from your PC to investigate further. (

Start by uninstalling all 3rd party antivirus programs:

  • Hit the Windows key and type in "add or remove programs" then search for your antivirus and right click to uninstall. Restart your computer for these changes to take effect.

Next send a screenshot to confirm your firewall isn't blocking League:

  • Hit the windows key and type "firewall". Click "check firewall status" and hit advanced on the left. Click inbound rules, click "name" to sort this list alphabetically. Search for and delete all League entries. Then click "new rule" in the top right. For rule type select program. For program path click browse and locate C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\LeagueClient.exe Click next to allow the connection. Make sure all 3 profiles are checked, then press next. Repeat this process for C:\Riot Games\Riot Client\RiotClientServices.exe Send a screenshot of the L section of this list to confirm it's correct

Next switch to Googles DNS:

  • Right click the network icon by the date and time. Click Network and Internet settings then click Change adapter settings. Right click the adapter you use, click properties. Select "internet protocol version 4" and click properties. Select "Use the following DNS server" and enter the following numbers: Preferred DNS is 8.8.8.8 Alternate DNS is 8.8.4.4 Click OK at the bottom. When this is finished, hit the windows key and type "Cmd" and hit ctrl shift enter. In the black box type the following commands. Hit enter after each one. ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew ipconfig /flushdns

If this still isn't working please send me logs so I can look into this further.

  • Download the Hextech Repair Tool (HRT) Run the installer, then go to C:\Riot Games\Hextech Repair Tool in the file explorer Right click the tool and press "Run as administrator" Send me the "lollogs.zip" it makes on your desktop. You can click and drag to attach in this ticket. This video guide may help if you need it.
