Aurelion sol silence interactions

I was in a game where I was Sol and i was flying over from mid to top to stop garen from taking turret. When i got to lane, i had a pretty large q built up from the flight over. Garen promptly silenced me, in which case my q should (hypothetically) either a) pop or b) keep going until my outer limit. This was not the case. My Q completely disappeared, resulting in my death, and the loss of top. I am really confused. Is that what is supposed to happen?
