Malzahar's W Can Trigger Guardian from a Distance

Generally, for triggering guardian, you are supposed to stand close to your teammate, or, you use your mouse to point at your ally and cast a spell. However, when I picked Malzahar, I just need to use my mouse to point at my ally and cast the spell W for triggering guardian as long as I am far enough from the ally.
