Teemo glitch?

I've noticed something dreadful. My lord and destroyer Teemo is borderline useless. It's not because of the new oracle lense, or the new thunderlord burst meta, oh no. It's the fact that his e does not proc any god damn items ability. I've noticed since a few patches now hoping it get fixed, but to no avail. His e does not actually make use of any item that has an effect from magic damage. Rys scepter, Ludens, or even the mastery death fire. Why is it that other champs like Brand and Anivia get all the benefits from their passive magic damage but Teemo gets nothing but shame. He is already at an extreme disadvantage in this current meta, I think that would be the perfect buff(fix?) he needs. It would make getting spell vamp and other items worth it and put him back as a viable top. Satan is hungry for more corpses =(

Teemo's E has never procced spell effects because it is classified as an on-hit effect, not a spell. His Q and R do and have always worked with spell effects because they are spells. Teemo's E is a passive, not a spell.

It's the same reason spell effects don't proc from Irelia's W, Yi's W, Lich Bane procs, Devourer, Nashor's, MF's old Impure Shots, etc.

However, it's worth noting that Hextech Gunblade will heal for the initial .3 AP on-hit portion of Toxic Shot. There's some sort of non-intuitive distinction between "all damage" and spell vamp, though I'm not sure why all damage includes the initial hit but not the dot.

Thanks! But why don't things that get proced by magic damage not get affected then? I understand mostly now, but shouldn't that last instance of toxic shot proc death fire grasp like brands passive? Or Ludens?

Those items are classified as spell effects.

There aren't really any hard and fast rules that are applied consistently to how abilities are classified. The one rock-solid rule is that an ability will apply either on-hit effects or spell effects, never both. Further, on-hit effects and spell effects never proc other on-hit or spell effects.

For example, Ekko's passive procs spell effects on an empowered AA, but Diana's procs on-hit effects. Irelia's and MF's Qs proc on-hit effects, but Teemo's Q procs spell effects. Lux's AA procs spell effects when triggering her passive for magic damage, but Teemo's E procs on-hit effects when it applies magic damage.

In other words, if Teemo can use E to proc item 3115 he can't use it to proc item 3116

The only exception to this rule is item 3165 because "dealing magic damage" is a unique category by itself that applies to all purple damage and is not considered a "spell effect."

Nope. Because it's not a spell. It's the same thing as auto-attack modifiers; being an ability does not necessitate it being a spell.

It's an on-hit effect, not a spell.
