Mac Client Freezing since 5.2 (OS 10.9.5)

Since the release of patch 5.2 my Mac client has been freezing when in game. The entire screen freeze, except for mouse movement. Many red or blue pixels appear throughout the screen, similar to a graphics card crash. Can't alt+tab to close program and restart. Forced to power off and power back on.

Using OS 10.9.5. Could upgrade to Yosemite, but I am trying to avoid that if necessary.

I have used LoL Repair feature and still crashes occur.

I am afraid to continue to play because I do not want to get reported for leaving / AFKing games and get banned. Any other suggestion on how to fix this problem?

I am also having the same problem. Everything freezes except for mouse movement and I can still hear other applications in the background (i.e. Skype) fine. It is just League that freezes and nothing works except rebooting the entire computer. Please help Riot!
