Xerath Q indicator not shown

While playing a draft game on the rift, I was playing Viktor mid lane and the enemy I was against was Xerath. Every time the Xerath used his Q. I had only been able to see the animation and it saying "CHANNELING" over his head, but there was no way to tell where he was aiming. The indicator would not show up so I could not tell if he was trying to hit me or clear the wave. When he finally shot his q the indicator would then show up but not have enough time to dodge.
