Unable to join champion select

Just a moment ago, I started a game search (Intermediate bots) with one other party member. Upon locating a game, my entire UI went black, and somehow my client accepted the game on its own. According to my party member, the champion select was still open, but because I couldn't do anything aside from stare at the client (The patch number at the top and a chat window were both still visible) it ended the match because I didn't select a champion, and gave me a temporary (5 min) ban. After the champion select kicked me out, the UI returned to the client home menu. I'd rather not get banned from League because of client UI crashes, as this is far from the first time or method the UI has bugged out and prevented me from selecting a champion.
