Rengar Bonetooth bug with Leblanc ?

So I was playing Rengar in a recent game against a Leblanc and every time I killed her either by her diving and dying to tower or by getting a takedown or even straight up killing her burst 1v1 my bonetooth never got its stack. Is this a bug or am I just misunderstanding how bonetooth necklace works ?
