You cannot ping after it is purchased. It does have an auto-ping at purchase time, but only if it goes into your inventory slots. If it is consumed at purchase time (aka bought when inventory full), it is neither pingable, nor does it auto-ping in chat.

The two solutions I recommend are:

1. Make it pingable in inventory
2. Make it auto-ping only when it is purchased and immediately consumed.
