Been Playing for a while, how to get started in Ranked?

The short answer of course is click on the ranked que button. That's not really my question. As a solo player i've avoided doing Ranked play because of the toxicity of other players. Constantly being told that you don't fit the mold (i've cleaned up the language) of whatever role i've chosen has put me in the mode of doing only ARAM because then I can play my style in anyway I want and not be held to some preconceived idea of what is right and wrong. Add to that the idea of wanting to play with a premade team that holds the same ideas and things get complicated. Heck i'm not even sure if there's a Teamspeak/Ventrillo chat server that teams can arrange to talk to each other on for the community. Anyone out there in the same boat? Anyone willing to give good, constructive and helpful advice?

Ok. Here is the thing you need to decide. Do you want the truth, or do you want to hear something that makes it ok for you to continue to do what you want to do?

The truth is....(Skip to the section 2 if you don't want to hear it)

Section 1

There is a right way and wrong way to play this game period. The game is a series of mathematical equations.

People who play this game for a living (or moire likely the companies that pay them) have figured out the absolute most efficient way to do literally everything. They have tried every combination of build. They have tried every team comp. They have tried anything you can possibly think of and discovered the absolute BEST way to do it. This is basically what creates the "meta"

What this means is that if you and I both have a similar skill set and we both play the same champs. If I build their way and you dont I will win.

That being said, when you que a ranked match you should in theory intend to give it your very best effort to win.

If you build something that is "outside the box" or "non meta" say for instance, AD Sona, you are intentionally doing something that hurts your teams chance of winning. I say intentionally because if you understand my previous statement, the very best way to do things has already been figured out, you are choosing to play at a disadvantage.

Think of at like a track star that decided to wear shoes that were 10X heavier than normal track shoes just because he liked them or thought they looked cool. Even if he won a race occasionally it doesn't make the heavy shoes a good option. He would perform much better with lighter shoes. That can't be argued. The result doesn't change that simple fact. Now apply that to league. If you are doing things that are "non meta" or "outside the box" you are hurting your teams chances of winning. Now if you are playing normals that isn't a problem....thats exactly what normals are for. But when you que ranked you are making a pact with 4 other real people to try your best to win as a team. If you build AD Sona (just an example) you are hurting the teams chances and of course they are going to be mad.

Section 2

Don't listen to other people. Play whatever you want however you want and just mute everyone. You know what's best for you and your play style. You are an innovator and everyone else just hasn't caught up to your brilliance yet. Games are for fun and as long as YOU are having fun no one else matters.

dont do ranked especially right now... things are kinda screwed up in the que system and every little everything as wellYorick

I just started playing ranked and looking for teammates to go in premade.

As you said: giys can be toxic as hell. So I lost 7 ranked games straight away without being to bad ...

Genyao3 that's the type of response... that does nothing. if the best you can come up with is 'don't feed' then don't respond at all. Not everyone is good at coaching/teaching

and Sixdogman I'm aware. My desire to go ranked is in hopes of getting away from that mind set in 'normal' mode. IF Ranked mode is anything like normal mode please tell me now because i wont bother with ranked and just find another game Wil

Option 1:

Hit diamond so you get the true solo queue experience and fairer matchmaking.

Option 2:

Play normals. Its the same thing (Dynamic Queue made it literally the same thing) but without any of the bullshit that's now below diamond.

You can still climb in ranked, it just won't be enjoyable.

Tip #1: Don't feed Tip #2: Don't feed Tip #3: Still don't feed Tip #4: You shouldn't still feed Tip #5: You win. GG 2 EZ

Are you ok having trolls/afk in your games? How about 12 games in a row? Because that happens. You've been warned.

There's no right or wrong way to play. There are, however, optimal and sub-optimal picks and strategies. The meta exists because it works; meta picks and strategies have the highest chance for success, assuming equal skill on both sides. Play whatever you're good at, and don't let anyone tell you that you aren't allowed to play a particular way, but it would also be nice if you tried to follow established patterns. Playing with the meta is easier on your team for multiple reasons, not the least of which is that they're more familiar with how to play with those champions and can coordinate better.

Make sure you have a decent-sized champ pool (4+ champs per role you play is a rough guideline, but the more the better) and can play at least 2 roles with competence. If you've done that, then feel free to jump right into ranked.

Just pick a role or two your comfortable with and try. Then you lose don't get mad. Think about what caused each death or lost objective and learn from it. You won't win every game but as you improve so will your rank. I've tried looking at everyone's death as my fault for some reason or another and it helps to improve. Sometimes your team WILL drag you down. Up don't flame. Tell them nicely what they did and ignore the flaming you'll get back. Report assholes and move on the the next game. It's not as toxic as people say it is.

Ranked is a competitive queue. So the meta kinda have to be followed. I mean i would be pissed seeing a hecarim/zed bot lane. it might work. but if the meta is that way, its because its the best thing to do now. if you want to play whatever you want wherever you want, might stick with normals. if you are willing to play in the meta, have fun and rank. I feel like people are way less toxic than they used to be. Just do your job in the game and everything should be fine. if someone is super toxic, just mute them. try to communicate with your team early on to strenghten the bounds so people feels a little bad to flame you. give em props when they do good and they will probly do the same. anyway. if you think you have what it takes to rank. go ahead and have fun :)

As you I dreaded the new rank system. I was gold 1 support last season and did horrible on my provisions 5/5 and landed in silver 2. It was a nightmare my provisions. I had players just literally quit the game because it was their final provision game and they didnt give a fuck any longer. Also the same nightmares from other seasons came back, in which players would pick champs they have never used before. So here are my tips

  1. dont sweat provisions, you will drop an entire rank if you go in solo. But thats ok, since now im winning 25-27 lp for every WIN and only losing 13lp if i LOSE. Im almost gold again within 30 games.

  2. stick to playing easy champs you know how to play. Forget about counter pick. Forget about flashy CS, LCK and ... plays. You are not pro leave that sht alone

3)Never ever over extend, when you have no vision. Use your trinkets and buy pink. for the love of god buy pink wards

  1. Call MIA, even if you laner just teleported back to base. The other lanes do not know that.

  2. LISTEN to other players pings. They are pinging for a reason and not because they like the noise it produces

  3. Try and stay as close to the META as possible. There is an actual reason its the meta. ITS because those champs are OP this season. I main zyra support since last season she is still a very good pick if you can land her snares. But if you have a toaster forget about landing skills shot.

  4. dont copy the shit streamers do. Yes I have seen those bizarre wins and such. But they dont show you how many times they have practiced it and the anout of times they have failed. Its not fun for your teammates. It lowers team moral when you are 0/3/0 in 10min

8)Dont pick a self champ. Make sure your champ synergies with the team: i.e. Yasou when you have no reliable knockup. Or going squishy top or jungle when their are no tanks

  1. dont chase w/o vision , dont think you can always 1v2 if you are fed. dont pick immobile champs when the enemy team has 2-3 hard engage champs

  2. dont worry about what your teammate picks. If thats his main champ let him use it. I prefer the player to pick a champ that he has obtain master 5-6 then a champ he has never played before.

  3. If you realize that you are getting camp dont over extend and farm under turret. You will lose more cs when you are dead then vs the turret

  4. Dont play tired, drunk or under the influence of a downer drug. Trust me you dont play better. You just think you do. There is medical evidence that your reaction is slower when under the influence or tired as well as more than likely to make a poor choice decision.
