We need one more gay person

There are two key reasons why the legal rights, benefits, and responsibilities of civil marriage should not be extended to same-sex couples.

The first is that homosexual relationships are not marriage. That is, they simply do not fit the minimum necessary condition for a marriage to exist--namely, the union of a man and a woman.

The second is that homosexual relationships are harmful. Not only do they not provide the same benefits to society as heterosexual marriages, but their consequences are far more negative than positive.

Either argument, standing alone, is sufficient to reject the claim that same-sex unions should be granted the legal status of marriage.

Pretty sure that the religious definition and legal definition can differ. If people decide to vote for gay marriage to be legal, it's officially gay marriage. Outside of your church, it's up to the law.

Didn't name a single benefit or consequence. I can name a few consequences of not allowing it, like lack of tolerance for others and hate crimes (remember interracial marriage? Yeah, history repeats itself, Bible and all). The benefit of gay marriage is, well, their happiness and us not having to argue over it anymore. It won't harm anyone outside of the marriages, because it doesn't affect anyone else. They're going to be gay no matter what, so what's the point of holding them back? What happened to spreading love, and not hatred? And last time I checked, religion needs to be separate from the government, this is not a Theocracy.
