New Featured Game Mode Idea - Traitor
Okay so, I had this idea for a new featured game mode. Some friends of mine thought it'd be pretty cool so I'll just post the idea here.
Basically, it's a 5v5 game on Summoner's Rift, but with a single major change and a bunch of other minor changes to make it work. One player on your team and one player on the enemy team is secretly working for the opposite team that they spawn with. For example if the traitor is queued up with the red team he'll win the match if the blue team wins the game. In order for this game mode to work however, certain smaller changes have to be made.
Here is just some suggestions as to how this would work, most of them I feel are needed, some may not be.
- Fog of War only allows you to see YOUR own vision, no one elses, not even your team or turrets or buildings... except maybe your nexus and fountain.
- You can only talk to people that are within your vision range and only see the chat that they type. Obviously this is a big change and may not be possible to do w/ the way chat currently works. Best case scenario Riot can get this to work and it'll be awesome, worse case chat would be disabled completely. I hope that this could work, it'd be the core of so much strategy if it was available.
- Anyone can attack and cc anyone, except in "safe zones." Namely the fountain but could be extended to something like turrets on your own side, regardless of who the traitors are. This has to be a feature, obviously if you can only attack one person on your team you'll know who the traitor is right away. This, combined with idea number 2, would allow the traitor to convince others that he/she is on their side and would obviously allow innocents to kill innocents and the traitor to kill innocents. Or the traitor to kill the traitor but let's be honest that's bound to happen anyway, since obviously the opposing team is still a enemy.
- You can only see who is killed when the announcer announces a death, not who killed them or what. Unless you're obviously in vision range.
- Wards are tricky. They could either be disabled or just provide extra vision whenever you see one. I think that blue trinkets would have to be disabled. Although certain ultimates that effect vision, like Twisted Fate ult or Nocturne ult, will be polar opposites. One would be overpowered as hell, the other... basically useless.
In conclusion, I think this game mode would basically be like league mafia. If you don't know what mafia is, google it. :P I think it'd be great and a strategically complex game. Will everyone group up as 5 to avoid the traitor killing them? Or will there be mostly standard lanes with traitors "losing" their lanes on purpose? Team fights will be chaotic as hell, aoe cc will be pretty much a double edged sword.
Anyway, feel free to discuss this idea... and support it and whatever. I realize it'd be probably very difficult to code but who knows, I'd love to see it permanently added to the game some day like ARAM.
