Leaving for good reason

Would it be possible/ a good idea to have a system in place so you can explain why you're leaving a game in progress? I say this because I've had a few games where the lag has made it unplayable or something along those lines, now sometimes this is my fault (my internet is going slow for whatever reason or my computer, you get the picture) but sometimes I feel that it may be Riot's servers (not certain of this, just assuming because of the situation at the time). The problem is that you are punished for leaving games (rightly so) but what if it is for good reason? (teammates being abusive, lag, anything that makes the game not enjoyable) Would it be good to have a system in place where you can say why you left the game after? E.g. Teammates harassed me all game until I felt sad for being in there (of course report them but you get a black mark against your name as well). That way if you have too many leaves then a moderator or something could check to see why you've left and maybe have a quick look at the game in question to see if you were honest with your reasons, then if your reasons were good and accurate then you don't get penalized? Just a thought, might be a terrible idea but hey, might as well share :)

Thoughts?

I totally agree there should be a way to do this, but the problem I see is people abusing it. For instance, just this morning our ADC said he had to leave because his mom was having a heart attack. I hate to be cynical about this but I kinda doubted that was the case and he just didn't want to get reported for leaving. Now maybe his mom really did have a Heart attack, but the problem is just verifying people's reasons for leaving. I also think there should be an option to surrender before 20:00. Like in games where two or more players end up disconnected for whatever reasons. I know it's pretty rare for that to happen and to stay that way, but when it does, it really sucks lol. Cheers!

This would get super abused, but I do think it can be a bit harsh sometimes. Yesterday i kept lagging out of queue and it kept banning me even though my connection to the servers was the only problem. Something DotA has that I think League should also, is the option to leave without consequence after the first person dc's

Not only could people abuse it, but honestly once you start a game you shouldn't leave it unless you're starting to die or you REALLY need to leave (such as a relative is dying or a doctor's appointment). I believe that once you start a game you're stuck in that game until it's over.

I do feel like there should be something like this because there are few times where the server you connect to is bad on your side; so you end up being the only person lagging on your team for no reason. Had a game in my series (I'm bronze :/) in which I was Support, ready to carry my adc, but for some reason I had like 700 ping. My previous game had 30ping, but then here I am with 700 ping on a different game. I reset my internet, reconnected, restarted my laptop, did everything, but the mysterious lag was still there. I had to leave because I kept dying in lane because of the lag(not even an excuse). Its moments like these where I feel I shouldn't have been penalized for leaving. Because its either I get reported by all these salty, toxic, bronze players for being a n00b and feeding because im lagging, or I get a leaver penalty for leaving. item 3070

How about: start a leave vote on your team (for you to leave) if 3/4 people on your team allow you to leave, you leave and cannot come back but you do not receive a mark on your record. You receive losses for the game as normal and wins don't count towards your wins.

I think if you are only leaving for legitimate reasons, it will be very rare and you shouldn't get banned for it. I could be wrong, I don't know how harsh LeaverBuster is. The bigger problem is the rest of the team, especially in ranked. I think if someone leaves, for any reason, they should get a loss and time penalty (to combat abuse), some punishment for anyone queued with them, again to prevent abuse, but not as harsh as the one leaving in case of legit reasons. The game will end, maybe automatically after some time, or maybe a vote while someone is dc'd, and the "surrendering" team gets a loss prevented (other than leavers). I'm not sure if a win should be given or not. If not, it could be abused, "other team doesn't deserve a win I afk," but there are games won 4v5/lost 5v4 so it feels almost unfair. Though I think in most cases the team with the dc will lose anyway, so I'm leaning more toward giving the win.
