I can tell you about one of the main mistakes, "casual ARAM players" usually do. In late game you DON'T want to kill your enemies. Not 1 by 1. You wan't to win big team fight, kill everyone and push or don't kill anyone at all. You want to poke enemies as low as possible, control heal relics and just leave them there. Because if you kill them, then they just respawn with full HP, better items, ready to win next team fight. But if you poke multiple enemies to 10% HP, while your team is full, then the game is pretty much over (remember, that we're talking about late game).
Unless you have really good and unavoidable engage, like Sion or Pantheon, so you can start 4v5 before they run away.
Even in early game it's always better to kill 3-5 champions than 1. But it's also great so get fed from free poke kills, so don't worry about it.
Similar mistake - it's not really worth it to waste your summoners just to catch that 10% HP Leblanc. Let her live (unless she can heal herself quickly). And if you're chasing her, don't run straight after her - chase through heal relics. And opposite situation, it's not really worth it to waste Flash just so you can survive with 100 HP (unless you have good healer or control heal relics).
I'm pointing these particular things out, because they're really counterlogic for someone, who plays only Summoner's Rift.
You will get more out of THIS LINK RIGHT HERE than anything else posted to this thread or on the ARAM reddit boards.
remember
getting tower > getting kills
It's an old thread, but ARAM is in desperate need of a revival of strategy with many bilgewater casuals.
Do not go full squish against a poke team! Every single team just throws the game by building glass and dying before they can even touch the enemy. Balance your damage and bulk. Engage together and engage HARD. Adapt your build more than ever. Other modes you can get away with a build that's like 4 core and 2 flex. ARAM you want 2 core and 4 flex. Your build should be a response to your opponent. See a teemo and you're an ADC?
first item. Enemy all AP? Drop your normal armor and take more MR instead. Buy an early
to really spice up your team engage. Enemy have a Sona? Get everyone AP to grab
as soon as they can. Counterbuild everything.
is noob. Certain champs like Amumu can still use it to pinpoint precision ult, but if you're squish and don't have a point blank AoE ult to use it with, DO NOT TAKE IT.
is the most OP thing you can take, especially with the number of noobs using
wrong and just diving with no backup. Exhaust one of them for a free kill. Exhaust an asassin who tries to jump someone. Exhaust the bruiser who thought he could do some damage then flee. Exhaust anyone who dives, or anyone who can be caught while chasing.
Not really any advice for ARAM due to the random nature, learn and pay attention to your champs and teams. If your good with brand and you get brand then go all out, its ARAM who the hell cares? If you get someone your unfamiliar with then just relax and slow down your play style for a minute. Try to get a feel for the character before you just run in and try to go ham.
Summoner spell tips.
Good for Assassins and Tanks, but don't always follow them up just because you can. They do offer some vision, if you want to scout the brushes.
Works a little better since your entire team is in the same spot. It can easily refill and recharge your team. Also useful since you can't recall. But don't substitute it for you main Mana items.
As for Build options, I personally opt for a
on most APC, and most Supports. Taking a gold gen Item increases your over all gold value of your team. Other mages with Longer range harass like Ziggs, I just go for chalice, Making sure that I can just keep the harass coming. Other support items work well, but I find this to be one of the best.
If your the only Tank or Support on the team, get your team a
. Especially if the enemy team is magic heavy. Though as a tank, you may want to shove this off to you support if your the teams engage. You may want to build more greedy for a tank if your going to be jumping into the enemy team. While
is a decent option for tanks, if your the support, Consider
instead. Especially if your enemies are AP heavy, at it will make it harder for them to clear the minion wave. Lastly for a supportish mageish build, If your team is severely magic heavy, Make sure one of your members has an
Sustain is going to be pretty important as you can't recall. If you have built in Sustain, build plenty of AP. I have on occasion built
to increase my survival as an APC. Get life steal fairly Early if your an ADC.
Most AD fighters and Assassins are trickier, You need to bide your time and focus the right targets.
