Strange Symbol near Blue Buff?

TL;DR There's an unexplained symbol near blue buff (blue side)

Hey guys, I was recently playing and noticed a strange symbol near blue buff. The first time I noticed it, it glowed and made a strange noise, about 20 seconds before minions spawned.

I tried to recreate the glowing/noise in a custom game, but I couldn't. The symbol was still there, but it had no FX. Here is a picture of the symbol: http://puu.sh/fRS4d/42d2b55a1f.png

You'll notice it on the rock to the left of Garen.

I know the resolution's not as good, but you can still see the symbol is NOT there?

So, anybody got any explanations for this? Is this a teaser/easter egg?

Talked about it on Surrender at 20 about a week ago. They light up if you're in spectator mode and hover your mouse over them. No one is sure what purpose they will serve.

There are five symbols. For now, they'll only light up in Spectator Mode if you hover them with your mouse, and as you said, a few seconds before the minions spawn.

Here's a nice thread about them on Reddit: PBE Strange Symbols Added to SR And another one: The Enigma of the Mysterious Symbols has been solved ! (even though it's definitely not solved yet. xD)

My guess would be an upcoming champion Teaser. Surr@20 found some files having the name "MM_Bard" or something like that, if I remember well. So, might be a new champ based on the music, a bit like Sona (Riot is focusing a lot on Music recently).

Also, there are a few more teasers with the "same" symbol in two different places. First, on the Tristana's rework picture: PIC And also in Amumu's video, at the beginning, on the bottom left corner: The Tale of the Sad Mummy

Also, some **YouTubers **videos featured the symbol. Even though it might be fake, such a teaser has been used for the release of Vel'Koz. See the videos here:

Personally, I think those videos are just made by the YouTubers in order to get views, but who knows?

Now, there are looots of theories already...

Like, for instance, if you draw a line between all the dots, you'll get a pentagram, which refers to Alchemy, which could lead to an Alchemist champ or something similar. But as a Vel'Koz player said, you'll draw a pentagram whenever you do that with 5 points. :)

Some said that the position of the points could refer to **Cassiopeia's **constellation (which is "kinda" true). So, maybe a Cassio skin or something like that, but I really doubt it.

Some people already tried to get the 5 players of the team near the symbols, but nothing apparently happened.

Most people think it's something about Amumu. Indeed, there was "clearly" a teaser with those three dots in the music video. Some think that he'll get a rework, some think that he'll get a lore update... Personally, if it's something with Amumu, my guess would be on a new champ related to Amumu. Like the one who cursed him, for instance. I'd love that, actually. ^^;

Also, let's not forget Ao Shin, the dragon. The runes in the Rift do look like something that might be related to Ao Shin, the long awaited champion teased in a LoL comic book (can't remember the name), in which Udyr had to face his greatest enemy, or something like that, not sure anymore. Heard something about Ao Shin only revealing himself when **Ionia **is in great danger. Is Ionia in great danger? I do not know, but maybe.

EDIT: Forgot the "New 120 AP Item" theory, in which those five points could be of some use for it. But it's unlikely, since the dots aren't mirrored, which would directly offer an advantage for one side. So, I don't think it's gameplay-related.

EDIT2: Some think it might be a jungler thingy. Like a teleporter of some sort, or a vision-related object. Once again, not mirrored, so unlikely.

Weeeell... Lots of theories, lots of interesting theories... But no one knows for sure, excepted the Rioters... :) I just can't wait to get some clues on this mystery.

The Answer is in plane site,Placement of the Symbols,4 on the side of walls,1 on top of a rock! Thus meaning the culprit must be a climber,agial(MonkeyKing isk if you will),and Light,Light indeed is the main point,light oh the lights in the sky what can they bring storms,warmth or something more!

Ya know sometimes things are a teaser and sometimes there not. In this case I wish this wasn't a champion teaser, just for the sake that not every thing that is mysteries is a teaser for a champion, but I digress.

In the case of the strange markings, there really is no clear resemblance to them any were on the rift? Is that the mark of Baron? Perhaps some Jungle camp? Maybe a item that looks like this? A champion that shares the same features ( Jax )?

Hardly anything to go on off really, but if there is anything to go off of is it glow. Hm, that glow, only happens when the minion spawn right? Perhaps the glow represents the strong magic that is released from he Nexus when it starts to spawn the minions. But why does the mark behave in this matter? What makes the mark connected to such magic? As well it glows that of a magnificent gold, perhaps some times with Shurima?

One thing is for sure these marks are more than just doodles of a mere child, but as well... who drew them?

Didn't think about the Nexus' energy. Good guess, I'll buy it. :) And yes, who drew them? Hmm, mysteries everywhere...

ILLUMIN... Okay, I won't go into that, it's been done over and over. >_>

One person on Reddit said that the mark look like the Meditation Mastery in the Utility tree. Ionia-related event?

Hm the symbolizing of an event....perhaps....seems plausible. The gold could also refer to Ionia in the sense of it being majestic (sorry but i don't consider things if there not on the map or on a champion, no hard feelings about the mastery thing but could be cool).

But if it is to symbolize an event, what kind of even? These are the questions you need to ask your self. Its easy to say this means this but to say why is a completely new task. But with the lack of information and the sudden appearance of it i don't blame any one for not giving an example of this.

Now to answer your question though, a Ionia event, hm... has three circles which is inside a circle and glows gold when near a strong presence of magic. Hm maybe, just maybe Soraka? Doesn't her Q have strange constellations on it and glow, not only that but it is called Starcall which means it has a divine interception, as well the closer the Star gets to the circle the brighter the glow is from the constellations . Hm so maybe Soraka has something to do with this, maybe something fell from the sky one day and thus is spoken of in Ionian legends.

Hm interesting...

A legend about the sky....must have something to do with Soraka or perhaps...something else?

Interesting theory too... Something about the sky... I must say that I do not remember such thing in the League's lore. Maybe something terrible will happen, which will cause a lot of trouble and danger for Ionia? Then Ao Shin will awaken? Interesting...

Now, on a more "realistic" note... As I wrote below, Surr@20 found out that those symbols are named "Bard_Symbol" see here: Surr@20 1/28 PBE Update. Something related to some kind of bard? Someone telling tales? Like Amumu's tale? Interesting...

Ah, that thing, yes many people seem to have put that as for Baron. Why? Beats me really Baron is spelled with a N not a D. So yes a story teller...anybody who tells stories in league as of right now? Hm not any i can think of right of the bat but a story teller. Not the first time we ever seen one, we all remember the Harrowing don't we?

A bard...I like that idea, a story teller. Some one who has seen such magnificent things in his life that he just has to Tell hem all. Then one day, he tell's the wrong thing, his credibility is lost. In a desperation of proving his name he seeks out the very same place where he witnessed said thing. Only to find nothing, days pass and not a word has arrived of the bard. No one minds, but the kids, the kids loved his stories they where so exciting, glorious, breathtaking. One of the kids wondering why he disappeared goes searching for the bard. Using the story the bard told the young lad, he guide him to were the bard disappeared, a open roofed cave in the mountains. Upon arriving he to was greeted by nothing, realizing that the bard did indeed lie he quickly turned around and went back home to tell his friends. But upon turning his back he heard a faint hum, a small one , like that of a bee. The child quickly turns around to see this golden creature, the child has to shelter his eyes from the radiance coming off the creature, the only thing the child could look at threw the crack in his fingers was the mask. 3 dots in a giant circle, the 2 upper dots had lines going down them while the bottom one was pure black. Then it spoke, "Go, tell hem what you've seen, but they will not believe you."

Interesting? But perhaps not totally viable, who knows i could be spot on or be light years away.

You are quite the story teller yourself. I shivered. Well written. Really liked it. :) Now that I think about it, the only children in the League are Annie and Amumu. Introducing a new young champion might be good. Could be a drawer, an artist. I don't think there's any artist in the League, right ? Well, visual artist I mean, like drawing. The boy could draw a few things on the ground, and if he completes his creation without it being destroyed by the enemies, it summons a **creature **coming right from his nightmares? Oooh, I like that idea.

A golden creature? At first, it made me think of Archlight Vel'Koz, to be honest. But another one... Instead of coming from some nightmares, the creature could be the result of the boy's imagination? And the boy could be the descendant of the original story teller? They'd share the same memories, thanks to the stories. And in dire situations, he could invoke him? Hmm...

Now about the story teller, there was this old skin concept made by a player: Virgil Maybe Riot used it?

I really love that idea of a story teller. Didn't think of the Harrowing, though. I've got quite a bad memory.

If all of this was about a new champion and if it was a story teller... I'd see him as someone who could control an enemy champion for a limited time. As if he was a puppet player (as seen in the Harrowing video). He'd also tell his stories, some tragic, dealing damage, some romantic, healing, some epic, inspiring his allies. A support, then. A bit like Sona , now that I think about it. A bit too much... Hmm, if I remember well, in the Virgil's concept, there's a mention of the story teller telling his stories so well that they'd summon soldiers or creatures coming from themselves. A summoner. I like summoners.

A support hm. What if the creature gave the child's power indirectly? What will the child do with these powers? How would he live with it? i personally focus more on the background of champions and use their kit to help me prove the point. But i sup[pose i can give it a go

Perhaps he summons a tower? a turret? A statue? And while near this structure u would get a resistance increase and a health regen increase. Or maybe he could summon a dragon to breath down fire which will grant vision and deal more dmg to minions and jg camps, allowing for him to put more pressure on objectives. Or he could put down some sort of field thing that grants mana regen and health regen?

Thanks for the compliment, i usually don't consider my self a good story teller. But lets not get to carried away here. This is just a theory, nothing we just said is official or stuff.

Yes, of course, all of this is basically just our imaginations. :) (And me having fun)

For the child's creature, I'd probably see something like Annie 's Tibbers. Hmm, but way more powerful. Of course, you'd need a lot of requirements to invoke him, it wouldn't just be an instant-stunning-burst. Like I said, maybe drawing circles on the ground in a correct pattern. But once summoned, the creature would follow the boy for quite some time, hmm... Maybe draining his life away ? And the more life he gets from the child, the more powerful he gets ? A double-edged sword that might get really powerful, but also deadly.

There are some instances of nightmares becoming "reality" in League. Even though I don't know if they are official. But I've heard of Nocturne being Shen's nightmare. Specifically, Shen's nightmare of Zed. So, the nightmares of a child becoming reality could be something worth exploiting.

Let's say the boy found the cave of the story-teller and was exposed to some sort of void-related object/form/life. The boy would try to run away, but his nightmares would eventually imprison him. After several days in that state of great fear and distress, a voice coming from the outside of the cave would call him: "Fear not, for I have returned". The story-teller. Actually, it'd be his ghost, his spirit... Smiling, reassuring. He would then read a pleasant story, which would chase the nightmares away and free the boy... To be continued. :)

I like the idea of the dragon granting vision. Maybe he could also burn the ground in an AoE. The idea of a global vision spell sounds good to me, since there's still not a single one that's really global. Calling a dragon from the sky would be epic, too.

About the summoning of a tower, I find it unlikely. There's already Azir for that. Also, if the spell has a free positioning, summoning a tower in the jungle would, aesthetically, look weird, imo. Maybe some kind of monument or statue, yes. A fountain, maybe? There's no mana-regen spell anymore, since they modified Soraka's kit.

Well, maybe Riot will note all of this and use it someday. x)

Ah the good old Noc is Shen's nightmare, it sounds plausible at first glance but, what is it exactly? Think about in more depth, what does Noc represent from Shen's dream? Zed? Perhaps, but its much like every other theory, has flaws.

Yes like I said, i'm not the best at creating kit ideas. But the structure summoning will probably be a statue, but i digress. Other than that really i don't know what other kind of theory i can come up with on the matter. i may just have to review what kind of lore is still viable with the whole retconing fiasco. But hm what else could the symbol mean...

There is a total of five marks in the Rift. :) Some people tried to be at the five marks at the same time, but nothing happened.

My best guess is that they're related to an upcoming champion or event. I don't believe they're purely decorative.

I believe with the announcement of bard the wandering caretaker and his passive being the meeps and ancient chimes, I think that wherever this symbol appears is where you will be able to pick up a chime and obtain a meep as the symbol matches the face/ mask of the new champion

Its Bards symbol XD I FIGURED IT OUT WHEN I WATCHED BARD DO JUNGLE AND IT WAS THE SAME SYMBOL THAT HE HAS WHEN HE STUNS PEOPLE WOO HOO!!! Check it out, it looks the same!

Are you talking about the symbol on top of the rock because if you are that Is bards symbol. Those things are put on the map right before Bard was released. It glows when u first walk past it. There are like eight of them on the map all over
