Team Builder queue needs improvement.

Team Builder is awesome for getting past the stress and rage of blind pick. You don't have people calling the same role or fighting over the same champ and queue dodging when they don't get it, etc. However, the process of actually building a team still leaves much to be desired. For starters, you have no way of queuing with a friend for an existing team. If you want to play with a buddy you must host a game. This means that the duo hosting a game as top and mid can't be joined by the other duo hosting a game as support and ADC automatically by the matchmaking system. They both must sit there and wait for 3 solo queue people to join their game. This makes the process incredibly slow.

Second, since you are able to select only one role per position, it narrows the pool of champs that could otherwise fill the position when multiple roles would work. Sometimes I would like a tank OR a fighter in the jungle, or a tank OR a support paired with a marksman OR an assasin in the bot lane, or a mage OR assasin OR fighter in the mid lane. If I could designate multiple roles per position, it would make finding a suitable champ much faster.

Third, the impatience of the people in solo queue kills the queue time and makes it even slower. People will join a game, see that it isn't full, and leave immediately. Even when we have a perfectly reasonable, strong team comp, people will still instantly leave. I once sat hosting a game for 30 minutes because I would get a support and marksman, but we wouldn't have a jungler, then the support would get impatient and leave, then 10 seconds later we would get a jungler, but then they would see we didn't have a support and they would instantly leave, and it would repeat like that over and over until 3 poeple finally joined at the same time.

I therefore suggest that the queue offer a disincentive for instantly leaving games over and over again. Put a timer on the find another team button that gets longer the more times you press it or if pressed multiple times in short time period, like how you get a timer on the queue for blind pick if you queue dodge. Or prompt a person for feedback as to why they are leaving a team. On the odd occasion people will leave a team because they genuinely don't like the other champions or the positions that have been designated, and that is what find another team should be used for, not ditching otherwise viable teams and making them wait longer just because they aren't full.

Fourth, I would like to be able to queue for multiple roles and/or multiple champions at once. Most champions have multiple roles that they are capable of, and often I don't care which role I am filling as long as I can play the champ I want. For example, I like top and mid, and there are many champions, like Lissandra and Gragas, that can do both well, so I ought to be able to queue for both at once. Or, for example, I might want to play Karthus mid or Maokai top, and I don't care which I get, so I want to queue for both and join the team that needs one of those positions first.

On the whole it takes way too long to build a team because the tools that team builder provides to do so are not yet complete. I think that the items I mentioned should be improved upon and the queue should be faster and more efficient about assembling teams before any consideration is given to a ranked team builder mode. Team Builder needs a lot of work before it is ready to be a ranked queue.

Good ideas. I think Riot's already mentioned ideas for a ranked teambuilder can help: Queue for position and role, then once the team is formed find a match, ban champs, and draft pick. That solves most of the issues on its own. The one thing it doesn't allow is a guaranteed way to practice a champion. That's obviously not a loss for a ranked mode, but it's one of the main uses of teambuilder.

Your first paragraph is MY biggest personal concern. You bring up other good points in your other paragraphs, and they are valid and should maybe be addressed (especially the leavers) but the first issue in itself i feel will already help solve the other issues (including the leavers hahah).
