New Monthly Game Mode - "The Jungler's Revenge"

DEAFORT·1/29/2015, 2:13:14 AM·12 votes·1,559 views

I want to create a new monthly game mode. From everything I list below this will use mechanics mostly already incorporated in the game already. Feel free to ask if you have any questions. I have thought about this a lot and want feedback. Here we go:

Name: The Jungler's Revenge (or something like "Loses Lane/Blames Jungle", feedback on a cool name would be welcome)

Map: Summoners Rift

Theme: Certain champions stepping forward with all the power of the jungle to seek revenge on the cruel and thoughtless champions that have pillaged its wonders so long with no remorse or hesitation. (Maokia/Rengar/Zyra/Nidalee you get the picture)

Twist: Two four (maybe 5) man teams like normal with one two man "Jungle Team"

Objective: The "Jungle Team" will consist of two additional players on neither team. Their objective is to achieve a preset number of kills before the red or purple team manage to destroy the others' nexus.

Spawning: The Jungle Team spawns at one of two points, the Baron pit or Dragon pit. Each person will spawn at a different location. These will serve as their bases for purchasing items. This will be depicted in the champion select who is who and can be traded if both players agree to a position trade. Each champ will be referred to as either Baron's Champion or Dragon's Champion Both players spawn at the same time as the rest of the players.

Jungle Vision: Every jungle creep will provide vision for both Jungle Team members. When a camp is cleared, that vision is also removed.

To make it fair: As the Jungle Team is an ally of the jungle and HORRIBLY outnumbered, they have been given a considerable number of buffs to make them a viable threat:

  1. They start at level 3 (enough said)
  2. Their goal is to keep the creature of BOTH jungles alive hence they will receive buffs from each jungle camp as long as the large creature of the camp is still alive. Dragon Champion receives buffs from the red sides jungle, Baron Champion from purple. As soon as the camp is killed the buff will be removed from the Champion who is protecting them and will not return until that jungle camp respawns.
  3. A summoner spell of Baron/Dragon Champions will be Baron Buff and Dragon Buff.
Dragon Buff: At 3 minutes Dragon buff will become available to the Dragon Champion. This will start as a level 1 dragon buff. In 3 minute intervals, this spell will level up and the champions spell will increase to higher dragon buffs, including all its lower levels obviously. Ex. Dragon used at 13 minutes will count as having 3 dragon kills. This will be active for 15 seconds (is that to long? thoughts?) Baron Buff: This buff will be available at 10 minutes. This will be available every 2-3 minutes and last for 30 seconds. This buff will be applied to both players when activated. **Friends have debated with me about throwing this buff out and giving both players dragon buff. Possibly when one player uses it, both players activate at the same time? However someone may troll and waste it so I rejected this proposal. Just throwing it out again if anyone has better thoughts.
  4. In order to be considered a threat late game, they will receive constant experience instead of from farming or champion kills. Gold will still be received as normal from farm and champion kills to buy items. However, Jungle Team will be unable to farm its own jungle as they are considered allies.

Spawn Camping: Baron and Dragon will auto agro anyone close enough to them. If an Jungle Team member is near baron or dragon, that monster will gain a massive buff as to keep the enemy away from ganking at their spawn. If they choose to just wait for them to leave, the other enemy team will have free range to push lane and that other team camping will lose its advantage (no farm, exp, towers, etc). It is vital that Jungle Team protect these buffs while trying to gank lanes.

Any questions? Concerns? Major holes in my plan? Feel free to expound or edit my ideas if you have something great. Credit goes out to me (DEAFORT) and my co-workers (X3rdBornX and SandTrout)

"Oh, Jungle is coming top lane alright. Blame me every game and this is what you get."

Honestly, you wouldn't even need to worry about giving the jungle champs all those buffs, since the teams are going to avoid them at all costs anyway because whichever team expends resources fighting the jungle is gonna have less to use on the other team.

Another way you could do this is have the team of 2 be junglers and have the normal teams be 4v4 with Machete disabled. This would provide the 2 with an income stream (since both sets of turrets aggro them, one farms topside one farms botside. More in keeping with the theme, they don't actually farm the jungle they just passively get exp while the mobs in their side of the jungle are alive.

As for them being annoying, well, we'd get a meta of laners trying to make themselves unattractive to the junglers, and trying to make your opponent attractive to the junglers.

yes please? I'll just play someone like viktor and steal every creep from lanes mwahaha. Oh and try to stop me laners, I just wait for you 2 to trade and be kinda low hp and blow you both up too >.>

Love this idea, and would be a lot of fun. Not sure how the queue would work though; would you randomly be assigned onto teams like normal, or would there be a selectable option to be on the jungle team?

Also, this brings to mind another interesting game mode: Gold vs. Exp. Basically one team starts at level 18 but no gold, one team starts at level 1 but with 10k (or whatever is appropriate) gold. It would create an interesting race, since one team would have a stronger incentive to push an early win rather than turtle until late game. I imagine the Exp. team would want to rush since the gold team will level up pretty quickly.

Except no one would want to be in the 5s teams. That would be annoying as hell.

Plus the junglers would just beat on whatever team is losing worse 10x harder if all they wanted was kills... Go after the fed zed? Naw I'll just keep killing the lvl 4 xeroth when he gets to lane.

I think this idea is slightly confusing, and might have some limitations with Champ select in showing the jungle team as a different team from Red and Blue.

Some critiques:

It might be better for the junglers to start at level 2, simply because level 3 would probably be too broken on just about every champ, especially if everyone else is level 1.

Smite buffs are kind of confusing. Are the smite buffs permanent as long as the large camp minion is alive? This might be broken with some buffs, like permanent Red Buff, Krug Buff, and Scuttle Buff, especially early, when a lot of champs can't clear the camps. It might be better if the jungler got the buff from going near the respective camp, rather than having it permanently until the camp dies. This promotes having the jungler defend his own jungle, and also allows his opponents slightly more freedom in their lanes.

Some suggestions:

For jungle defense, why not make the the half each jungler has to defend based on the split between mid lane instead of being split by the river? This way, both junglers are defending the half of the jungle that gives them buffs.

It might be better to give dragon buff for both junglers if the summoner spell stays because some of the power in Baron Buff would be inaccessible to both junglers.

Have the jungle monsters attack people on the laning teams. They are now allies of the jungle team now, right?

I think the jungle defenders spawning in the dragon pit / baron pit would be a problem, due to spawn camping. Giving Baron/Dragon buffs when the jungle defenders are near to prevent spawn camping is problematic as well, because Baron and Dragon won't always be up. I'd suggest instead that when their spawn timer completes, they don't immediately respawn, but are given the ability to click on a jungle monster to spawn next to it.

Neat idea, though. I'd play it.

I like this concept a lot, it just needs to be improved or changed in a way I can't explain

I like the idea of this gamemode. It'd be a complete pain for Riot to create, and there are always the people that whine and complain about everything, but I think it would eventually pay off. Just a little input.
