A plea to Riot
Posting in Maps and Modes because I want this game to continue to survive.
Dear Riot, You are well known for LoL and for being an honest and respectable gaming company. You are also known for having smart and forward thinkers in your employ. I would love if you would take a moment to investigate opportunities to gain more money and more players to your already large community. I would love, if this were an ideal world, for you to buy Dawngate's Rights, including the 'Waystone' Staff members, who made the game possible by working from love and passion, the same way League became the greatness it is today, from humble beginnings and sparse art assets, and allowed them to continue to operate autonomously.
If you feel it'd be too expensive then very well, but I would very much love to see an attempt being made to save this from becoming just a memory.
EA seems to have dropped their support, their forums have been down for over 4 weeks, their EU server is a joke, and their whole staff is taxed. Yet they still managed to push through a final patch and another addition to their Lore Comic...
These are people I believe you could use on your staff. I think that both games have merit, they're different enough that it really is like stepping into two separate worlds. Unfortunately I understand that sometimes difficult decisions need to be made and that some properties cannot be saved.
Having Waystone working under you, their profits going to Riot, and having your backing and the ability to have a more stable server (debatable in NA....) could be all they need to stay afloat.
I am not working in the room with them, obviously, so I do not know if this was a corporate decision from EA, cutting what it felt was a burden, or if the team itself was unable to continue...
Either way, I can tell you this. LoL made Millions, not just in fans and players, but also in revenue... I can foresee the exact same thing happening for Dawn, much the same as it is for Dota2, becoming a Valve staple.
I know that at the end of the day, money is all that really talks. Please see if your people are willing and able to accept these future benefits, as already there have been so many who I know who wanted to spend money on Dawngate for it's optional content. Waystone followed your price model to a T, and it seemed to be working. If only we had more attention to this game, more players, and thus, more money, would be able to be filtered in...
And.. on a personal note, I think your teams, specifically the Lore team, could benefit from talking to the people at Waystone... their Lore is compelling, and well done, voiced, artwork accompanied, everything you have been trying to do, but in a less scattered and insane fashion.
... again these are just the dreams of someone who would love to see this game continue to exist...
