So Long and Thanks for All the Fish (For reals this time)
So long, ladies and gents. I am moving on.
I have played Dominion almost constantly since it came out with one long break. I've been through the ridiculousness of Kassawin destroying the mode for a year and a half with nothing done to stop him. I've played in over fifty competitive Dominion tournaments with multiple teams. I played the mode well enough to get to an MMR over 2350 at one point. I know the pain of sitting in queue for an hour because the matchmaking system finds it hard to place you.
But after two years of neglect I have finally had enough. These godawful forums are just the final, tiny, straw that broke the camel's back.
I have had enough of a company actively trying to destroy its own mode and constantly feeling like I am fighting against Riot to promote their own damn map. I have had enough of bots infesting the entry level area of Dominion, so anyone to whom I recommend the game mode gets immediately turned off by the sheer absurdity of playing multiple games where you are the only human player in the game.
Riot has neglected Dominion for pretty much the entirety of its existence. They have made it very very clear, time and again, that they could care less about Dominion. Or TT and ARAM for that matter. Their focus is entirely on Summoner's Rift and they don't care at all about us, minus a very few select individuals, (hey ManWolf). They have completely bought into Morello's narrative that alternate game modes are a threat to League's existence as a whole because of his experience with Guild Wars and his erroneous belief that alternate modes are what killed that game. So they don't bother doing anything with alternate modes other than keeping them in “maintenance mode.”
There's been a lot of bad things that have happened recently, and I simply can no longer enjoy the game.
However, not everything was bad, not by a long shot. Some good memories:
FancyWolf is responsible for me being brought into competitive Dominion, and it was a blast while it lasted. Playing in my first tournament with AEL such a long time ago- I still remember that one. He has become a good friend, and I hope that lasts past the end of this game mode we both enjoyed.
SifuCalvin made me a ton better at the game and at bot lane in particular by his emphasis on watching the whole map at all times, not just my area.
Wolferer, though he may never have known it, improved my bot lane play immensely, simply by watching him through playing directly against him so many times. I still wonder if that original team had gone through what would have happened.
Lerch and Kraogg are two of my favorite players to play with. They are laid back, easy going, and incredibly good at playing with each other.
Panzers is an awesome dude that was willing to talk strategy whenever I wanted, and I literally never saw him get angry once. The man is a saint, with everyone.
Konfetarius may have been a rudelord on multiple occasions, but his advice was instrumental in improving me as a player.
Genericke, well. I can't really say anything about Gen that everyone doesn't know. He's an awesome person, and I immensely enjoyed playing with him.
This isnt the be-all list either. There are a TON of people who I'd love to name but can't because of space and time.
The community of DominateDominion was and is incredible. It is the best community in any game I have ever been a part of. I met my amazing girlfriend in this community. I've made a ton of friends which I hope last beyond this game.
If anyone from Dominion wishes to contact me, the two best places are probably Steam and Battle.net.
My steam name is Koravel34, and my Battle.net ID is Thanatos#1252.
I'm going to keep an eye on Dominion news. Though I have basically no hope of this happening, if Riot were to implement ranked and some more balancing for the mode, I'd come back to give it a shot.
If that does not occur, then so long and I hope the rest of life treats you guys well.
