Why are pairs allowed in a Solo queue ranked?

For a company that is trying its absolute best (as far as face value goes) to reduce the amount of toxicity in the game, why are you setting up players to suffer at the hands of two friends who can do no wrong in each others' eyes? Especially in ranked queues?

These are the same types of people that don't understand the concept of communication. The ones who only pay attention to their small little universes surrounding their role and hold you accountable for them not paying attention. You could use the smart pings for YEARS and they still won't quite understand that there is something going on outside their little box that the should be paying attention to. A vast majority of the games I've been in (ranked) that involved a duo, I have lost. Because what I believe is the tendency of the pair to cover each others backs, and put the full blame of the game on someone else, even if they had a fault in it somewhere.

I recently installed Curse Voice and whenever I get to verbally communicate with these people rather than type to them, things go better. But when I have a special pair with their own voice communication program that just doesn't want to include anyone else, it sets up the first wall that I've got to get over in order to be on a level playing field.

EDIT: Duo queues are found using Scouter sites, such as LolNexus, LoLMate, and LoLSkill TL;DR

Duo queue ranked raises toxicity in that queue and I feel this should actually be looked into.

Most duos you probably don't even realize they are queued together. If they are toxic, report them and let the system take care of them; they are not getting any sort of preferential report immunity.

Most MOBAs have a Duo in Solo queue... get used to it. Should check out Heroes of the Storm, they allow ALL types of queues in ranked from 1-5.. so you could queue with 4 people and it's still called "solo" lol.

Are you sure? Not a lot of duos are vocal about it for the obvious reasons, and some of the vocal duos say so to get their roles.

For all you know, every game could have involved a duo and they just never told you.

There are numerous sites and apps that tell you when there is a duo in your team. This has already been said multiple times. They don't have to be vocal for it to be obvious.

Cause it is sad that someone can't just have an opinion or a conversation, and has to rush to downvote instead of having a conversation or rebuttal like a big boy or girl.

And yeah, my last comment stands. You instantly downvoted me 3 different times (at least), then made a comment saying there was no mention of sites or apps (when there clearly was, since there are very few posts, and 2 different people mentioned websites, and I mentioned apps). So that is pretty obviously being far too hasty to downvote instead of reading and assuming.

You really care about these downvotes, do you? You could hold an argument about it, but it's kind of... invalid if, ya know, I'm reading your posts and responding whether or not I downvote you or not. Yes, you are kind of being rude, considering I am having a conversation or rebuttal like a big boy or girl. If I weren't, and I never responded in the first place, then your case would have some form of foundation.

And who gives a shit, honestly? It's just some forum voting thing. It's not something to rage at someone about. And obviously other people are downvoting you, even if I was in the first place.

And I apologize for not reading every comment. I do recommend OP add that information in his original post, however, for clarity. Information can be lost in the comments.

edit: and going by your logic, weren't you technically "blindly downvoting" me then? Because we're both responding to each other, so... can't really say that applies to me if it doesn't apply to you.

Can you add the part where you used LoL Nexus and whatever else to make sure there were duos?

People like me didn't scroll down and read the comments. ;~; It would add clarity, so people know that you knew when there were duos, even if they didn't just flat-out tell you (because people like me might think that only the bad duos told you that they were duos).

How duos are unaware they're queued together I'll never understand. I understand they don't have report immunity, but PREVENTING the queue from happening would reduce overall toxicity in the queue.

He meant that most duos go unnoticed since they don't typically draw attention to themselves. Therefore, you have likely been queued with many good duos and just haven't noticed.

Ah. I see.

I've been using LoL Nexus before every game so I can see who the duos are and whether or not I'll have to endure more crap, and the duos have yet to hesitate to say they ARE a duo and will usually get the spots they want. Usual abuse follows unless they carry the game.

They removed it from op.gg, but as recently as a week ago (last time I played ranked) I've seen duos in numerous places, including the phone app I use if I'm not playing at home, as I use my second monitor otherwise.

I'm not saying this for all duos, but I often duo with my cousin, he takes jungle as that seems to be an under played role and I fill. We get each others back if any flaming ensues but there have been several occasions that we were the two diffusing a situation between other people on the team.

I prefer it because I know there is another level headed person on the team that isn't going to rage and they are easier to communicate with.

You should probably take another look at what I said.

And yes, Duo Queueing should most definitely stay. Maybe you need to duo queue with some friends so you can learn how much better gaming is with company.

I did read what you said. But I'm not gonna pander that back and forth.

I play with friends all the time. Outside of Ranked Solo Queue.

Solo Queue is a test of my ability to co-operate with people I have never met before and a place for me to test how good I am at the game. I don't feel that a place commonly known as SOLO queue should allow pairs of people. Crucify the idea I suppose.

That's strange. You admitted your misunderstanding to the other guy, but not to me...

Anyway, it's commonly known as "Solo Queue" because we're not going to type out "Ranked Solo/Duo Queue Draft Pick" every time.

Seeing some toxic duo's should not merit getting rid of the option altogether; Not many people have 5 friends to run a ranked team with, but why should that mean they can't ever play ranked with a friend for it? That's a ridiculous notion, and only punishes many innocents for the actions of a few.

If you're using LolNexus and taking specific note of a duo, you are probably also paying particular attention to them and remembering what they do and say more than you do the rest; this is called confirmation bias.

I refuse to duo with people who claim I'm duoing with them unless my boyfriend is smurfing and he really wants to jinx ADC. In that case he normally claims he's smurfing and not a duo with me. I think that by claiming you're in a duo you often create a hostile environment in a team and I feel like there are plenty of other duos that feel the same. Since Lolnexus did remove their duo alert system (it's against Riot's ToS) you shouldn't be able to use that to check

Riot should still allow duos to play ranked, but they should give solo players the option of a solo-only queue. You'd have better matchmaking, fewer fights over lanes (don't have the last pick duo member asking to lane w/ their friend when you want that lane), and you'd never need to wonder whether you're laning against the s5 member of the duo or the g1 member.

Sure most mobas have duos in solo queue, but they shouldn't, is the point.

I am going into solo queue - not duo queue

As the op, I use sites or programs that show me when people are duoing, and probably 99% of my games do not have a duo, and the ones that do tend to go poorly as the duo is either bot, or mid jungle.

Usually the bot does terrible or keeps others from going bot when they are last pick, or the jungle only ever ganks his buddy, and that is rarely not the case.

I don't mind having some duos if they are there to play with the team, but I don't like the idea of being forced to go in solo and be put with two people that can easily make the game worse when 2 out of 5 is a high percentage in this game. I just don't see a reason there should be duos in ranked by default, instead of an option to opt out of queueing up with any duo group.

If you want to play with friends, either a) play in team builder or b) start a 5s team.

I do and have done both, I don't duo with my friends in ranked, and vice versa.

Yeah when I respond to one person directly, and suddenly I have -2 in a span of about 5 seconds, then that same person immediately responds, that must be 3 different people all at once.

If I downvoted anything without responding, it's usually because I agree with another reply and don't want to repeat it. I can't say the same for whoever else is here, but I assumed that's common practice.

Botlane is actually a lot easier if you duo queue. Since each adc/support reacts to things differently voice communication is not only more efficient but finding a partner who thinks like you or synergizes with your champion pool significantly increases your chances of winning. One of my closest friends hit Diamond 5 during preseason as someone who was a Diamond level support, claimed to be a plat level ADC, and fed at mid/top/jungle. I remember asking him for advice at one point and he said "find a duo partner and stick to them. If you learn how your ADC plays and you can support tp their playstyle you'll win botlane more often than not". I honestly think it's good advice.

The biggest problem with duo queue is really the "duo bot" groups where they don't main botlane but are calling botlane because it's the duo lane and they are a duo.

I honestly don't think that a duo queue raises toxicity otherwise though. Maybe it's because I'm not a toxic person, I consider myself an overly optimistic/positive player in 95% of my games and I refuse to duo with anybody who rages but even when I give up my main (support) and my second main (adc) to a duo I almost never have a duo that is toxic or unhelpful whether they feed or carry. I think you just have bad luck with duos.
