Small idea for champ select in Draft Pick: Soft-Select Button

So I posted this on reddit, and though it never got much visibility, everyone was supportive of the idea, so I'll leave it here. I'm wondering why there isn't some way to "soft-select" your champion in draft pick. In champ select, before it gets to your turn, you should be able to show your pick to the rest of your team. It would make it a lot easier to synergize your selection with the rest of your team. "Oh, mid wants Zed, maybe I'll try a more AP-dominant top laner." or "Oh, support is going Braum, I'll work on my Lucian skills a bit." All of this can go on without having to type and argue with your teammates about comps and without waiting until it's actually 4th/5th pick's turn to select.

Make right-click a sort of soft-select button in champ select, you select a champ, and a semi-transparent version of their splash shows up. This show your team your pick, but people ahead of you in the pick order can still select that champion if they want. It just seems like it would open up pre-game communication a little more for solo queue.

Not a bad idea really. True, people could announce it in chat, but sometimes chat becomes cluttered, and when you're on the clock trying to pick the right champion, the soft-select would let you see what people want at a glance, rather than potentially having to skim through the chatbox to find what everyone wanted.

I can see it now in solo queue... Nasus Pantheon Lucian Lucian Pantheon

I WANT TOP NO ME!!! ADC! ADC 1st I'm the better Lucian Dude your Panth sucks..

Kidding aside, there is Merritt to this idea and if implemented properly can improve the lacking system that is in place now.

I like this idea. I also like this idea applied to Bans as well.

I would support this

Smart idea, I think this would help communication overall throughout the team. Allowing people to understand what you are going to play before you are going to play it. People would definitely learn how to synergize better leading to better games leading to better players and plays.

It could also help if you're going for a swap too. I think it'd be cool if you had some team-builder style list of role preferences, but I worry that might get too cluttered. I'm a little mixed though, sure it could help in communication, but often it feels like those who don't communicate in chat may not use this function either. Of course, some people don't look at chat since it's sometimes just filled with junk. Who knows, it could be a good feature to add into the game. I also like Valkyrie Witch's suggestion for voting on bans too

good idea- I never do that kind of mode because of the team rage I get thrown at me- but this would be a nice thing to lower that a bit xD but yeah nice idea :3

This is kind of a conjunction idea, but perhaps there could be a "prevent auto-lock" timer as well.

So, for the first 30 or so seconds you can discuss roles, show everyone what you would ideally play with the soft-select option, and then lock after all players come to as close to agreement as possible (or when the primary timer runs out).

What do you think?

This is a great idea, I love it. A Rioter really needs to see this amazing idea!

this has got to become a thing i think, the amount of miscommunication i have encountered has cost me at least a few rank games, so any way to make pregame much more coherent and enjoyable will make the actual game a more enjoyable time

I think its a great idea, nice thinking man :)

Honestly I love the idea cause Se people are rude when texting and misread the chat so this is a great idea but riot usually doesn't listen it seems like so srry if does not come true but what's your league name so I can add you if you like

It is a good idea but the problem might be that the enemy team or your team constantly tries to counter who they will be against. Also, the reason I play draft mode is because if your top, you can choose whatever role and champ and if your last, it doesn't matter because you will definitely be able to ban and choose first sooner. it also gives you a slight advantage because whatever your role may be, you can counter it without anyone being able to change there selections. It's a lot less hectic than solo queue and it's more likely to be the meta rather than 2 frickin ad carrys duo top and feckin jungler which is unsurprisingly common in solo queue.

I definitely agree that after seeing how team builder works, a lot could be done to improve solo queuing. What you're suggesting sounds like a good start.

This idea is very good. Let people start choosing these tentative champs during ban phase to avoid accidental bans/etc. so that the whole team can plan more easily.

Essentially you're asking if we can show our priority picks, perhaps just grayed out when it's not our turn to pick yet, so that we can better coordinate team compositions. I can definitely see that working, although there is the obligatory question of whether or not this could create some issues (why do you want to pick this champ? why did you have this champ selected when you then moved to this one? etc). Outside of that, it would definitely help to have some sort of idea what your allies are picking, especially for more situational champions.

This is a good idea, imo, although themaddscientist did point out some valid negatives...
