A more serious ARAM?

All I play is ARAM.

I would like to see a more seriously-taken ARAM.

Too many people pub ARAM as a "form of relief for losing in SR."

I take it seriously and try my hardest, and I get teammates who tell me, "It's just ARAM," as they completely ignore team strategy. This leaves me using build and gameplay strategy to try to win, while 1 or 2 members of the team don't care whatsoever and dive endlessly, refuse to peel, and test builds like they would in a custom game.

It's the mode people play when they're too drunk to play with their ranked team or they're too tired to play with people who take a match seriously. I get it. ARAM started out as a mode to officialize a fun free-for-all that people used to have a chill game that no one really cared if they won.

I really do get it.

What I would like to see is an alternative mode of ARAM where players give their all, trade/roll to help their team comp, and have a reason to give a crap about the game they are playing.

I'm sure I'll get a plethora of responses saying, "Stop playing a mode designed for random fun and start playing ranked." Again, I get it. All I want is an alternative to that situation. I don't like the time SR takes to complete. I don't like the chance for one player to ruin the whole game (yes, I've won plenty of 4v5 ARAM's), and I really just want to jump straight to teamfighting instead of the 10m early grind and messing with wards and bosses.

My hope is for a version of ARAM that has a reward worth "trying for." I get so frustrated when I play well enough to find myself among Diamond players in ARAM, only to have a 6 game streak of playing with people that don't care, landing me in Silver land.

What I'd like to see in a serious ARAM: -all champs unlocked for the mode (no smurfs with pure uber ARAM champ buys and extreme penalties for dodging) -no weighting for free champs (yes, Riot, I know you weight free champs) -a reward for end of season (even just a summoner icon so others know you play ARAM like you care)

Feel free to flame me for whining or call me out for not playing other modes. It's the mode I like, and it's treated like a sideshow for the "real game."

I won't be watching this closely or editing, but those who support a better ARAM experience with players that actually try, please post feedback or alternatives to my suggestions.

Cheers all, and know that if you find me in ARAM, I'm trying to pull my weight in every match the best that I can.

There's no weighting for free week champs.

Also Jeddite is correct, improve your MMR and you'll get to a point where most players are trying to win (even if not really tryharding). That's just how MMR works, it separates the players who want to win from those who don't.

All champs unlocked doesn't balance anything. Some champ specific balance wouldn't hurt, and a ban/draft mode wouldn't hurt either. After all, you can plan and counterpick. Say someone picks Brand so I'll pick Galio, but oh wait, the enemy now picks Braum.

See, this can be serious AND promote people buying more champions.

wants "more serious" ARAM wants all champions unlocked in "more serious ARAM" doesn't comprehend how these concepts are mutually exclusive

The only way you'll really get a "more serious ARAM" experience is to raise your ARAM MMR to the Gold+ level.

I like the "all champions unlocked and the "Free champs not prioritized" but that is bout it. that would generally make ARAM better to be honest but i don't know how you can do like a "ranking" or "reward" for doing well or whatever when the odds are literally random. you could fight a team that simply out classes you and get pub stomped just by sure luck. Yes it is rare that a team like that happens but you know it does.

This is a topic of great importance! ARAM ELO should matter.

If I may...

ARAM poses a finite amount of strategies, namely pushing and taking advantage of the other teams mistakes, which usually leaves one team completely useless at the end of the skirmish.

On top of this, random champion selections leave an immense opportunity for imbalance. Therefore, there is no real "even ground" as there is in typically competitive gamemodes/maps. One team may get a fairly standard team, while the other team gets all armor based tanks, or all ADCs, or 3 squishy supports, a tank, and a glass-cannon mage. The possibilities for this are rather ridiculous.

#If You Want A Competitive ARAM...

  • Like you said, all champions ought to be unlocked. This way, all players can trade with other players for the chance to have more comfortable rolls, but it also gives everyone a chance to play/test new champions.

  • You need a more balanced randomizer. One that takes the META roster into account (Mage/Fighter/Assassin Mid, Mage/Fighter/Assassin/Tank Top, Marksman ADC, Support/Tank support, and a Wildcard Jungle), but refines it in a way that works with the ARAM system. For Example:

  • Mage

  • Fighter

  • Marksman

  • Support

  • Tank

These are the base roles, and these should be present in a balanced, competitive friendly ARAM. The mage handles magic damage, the fighter and marksman handle attack damage, the support aids with crowd control and healing, and the tank soaks in damage. The randomizer would randomly select 1 champion per category that falls into that category. It matters not who gets what, as due to our first bullet point, all champions are available, so teammates can swap around for what best suits them, or if they want to try something new.

  • Have more options available with the map. The point is for there to be only, but this greatly limits the amount of strategy involved. My personal suggestions would have maps feature "jungle-esque" areas on the sides of the singular lane, where they may perform escapes or ambushes, and/or different levels to play on, such as being able to go into an underneath section of the lane. Vision would work in the sense that you could see what is on your level, but if someone is standing right underneath you (or above you) you'd have no idea. The multiple levels of a map messes with the ARAM aspect slightly, but technically its still only the middle lane.

Well, that's all I can think to contribute to this topic. I am more than happy to speak through any of the points I've made if anyone has questions, or if they have ideas they would like to pass by me to think over, that's fine too. Thank you for your time, and I hope this has proven insightful, if not helpful.

Cheers!

For balancing out the randomizer a bit: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/summoners-rift/oqYrGzjI-a-new-aram-pick-type

Aside from that, dodge penalty rework:

No more 21 hour auto-forgiveness, forgiveness over number of games played instead. Penalty only counts while you're logged in, no account-hopping shenanigans. MMR loss equal to a game loss added to dodge penalty. Dodging after seeing the team comp is basically admitting defeat, saying you're incapable of winning under those circumstances. Let the dodger's MMR reflect that.

ARAM MUST be taken seriously. I'm tired of constantly getting mad at people for ruining my ELO or getting mad when I mention it

I do love going into a game where there is no chance of winning. Plz flame me for that because there are team comps where unless the team is a bunch of stupid 2 year olds they are going to win. It's not much fun when you want to sit at base and let the game be over so you don't waste 20+ minutes of your life on a game where there is no chance to success.

Til when gambling is meant to be taken seriously by non-idiots.

What do you think about adding ranked queue for ARAM? All champs unlocked, of course.

Dessim88/27/2015, 1:31:17 AM1 votes

So is nobody as interested in the focus on the All Mid part any more?

Snowball4u7/26/2015, 12:59:30 PM1 votes

So you are saying you want competitive aaram?

The gamemode is supposes to be for fun, not taken seriously. Yea those people that say gg before you even start are annoying because the enemy team is better but the goal is to be having fun.

Personally, I don't play ARAM like a play normals, so I put in the effort, I play the game, but I'm not in the same mindset I am when I play ranked and really want to win. If that's not good enough for you, I'm sorry, I don't think you are getting any ranked ARAMs anytime soon.

I'd like them to fix the champions in ARAM like warwick or sejuani who got nerfed because of a jungle item I can't even build.
