Season 5 Preliminary questions?
Is it worth progressing further into ranked before season 5 starts will that position carry over into season 5 or will I need to redo preliminary matches again?

From how I understand it, you'll still have to do the 10 provisional matches at the beginning of S5, but it takes into account what your rank was in your placement after those ten matches (so an S4 silver with 7 losses and 3 wins in provisionals would get placed in bronze, but a diamond with the same 7 and 3 might get placed in gold)
So unless you don't like doing ranked, there's no reason NOT to just keep trying to progress in ranked, but now is the least lucrative time to do so.
At the start of the new season your current MMR gets averaged with 1200: (Current_MMR + 1200)/2
If you raise your MMR now you will start the next season with a higher initial MMR before playing any ranked games at all. I made a graph that sums it up.
Regardless, you will still have to be reseeded and play 10 placement matches.
