NEW MODE - SUMMONER NEXUS DEFENSE

This mode would be based on defending the nexus from waves of minions. Summoners will have to work together to stop them from destroying the nexus. It could be played on a new map or perhaps on the Twisted Treeline/Summoner's Rift. Every wave of minions would be stronger and stronger. One side of the map would be unimportant because minions would be attacking from it. This coud be a 5 to 10 men game. The jungle could be used for obtaining buffs that the whole team would get and for extra money. But these buffs would be something like a whole team blue or red buff. Also every few waves there would be a boss in one lane which would be significantly stronger than the rest of the minions. Which would make players change tactic or leave a lane to help the other players. Although since there are only two lanes in the Twisted Treeline this would not be as effective as opposing to a map with four lanes or maybe even five. But this would require a new custom map. Which would be kinda refreshing. The shop would be open only between waves unless you die during a wave. Death timers can stay the same which makes things complicated if you die late game.

Game start: All players start at the shop and have a few towers around the nexus and one tower in the lane. They would have a minute before the first wave comes and 30 seconds between every other wave.

Game end: Your nexus is destroyed or you defeat all waves. (for example 30 waves but Riot should probably decide this since it requires a lot of tweaking). For each wave that you defeat you will get a proportionally higher amount of IP points at the end.

NOTE: THIS MEANS THERE IS NO PVP, ONLY PVE

I believe that this would make every role impactful and important, and it will force teamplay in order to be successful and last longer. This mode could have levels of difficulty like the doom bots mode had. Difficulty levels could differ in the number of minions per wave or maybe with more frequent boss spawns.

This could perhaps be done even on the Summoner's Rift but I think the map is too big for this mode. IF they would actually consider making a new map for this it would be best if the nexus was in the center with four towers around it (if there would be four lanes) and one tower in each lane. So it would be logical to played by 8 summoners or 9 if they implement the jungle factor.

Also the dragon can be implemented for an optional permanent buff which would obviously differ from the Summoner's Rift buffs it gives. And maybe even Baron buff which would elapse over time. Killing the Dragon or Baron can be done between waves which requires teamplay and organization.

Please leave comments or suggest ideas if you like/don't like this.

Why not PVP?

Lets take summoners rift;

  1. **Nexuses **and **Inhibitors ** and ** laser turrets **are immune to champion damage.
  2. Big monsters when killed re-spawn at killers base and fights for killers team.
  3. Dragon Kill -** spawns extra minion wave** for the team that killed him.
  4. Baron kill - spawns a doom bot for your team that pushes like a minion.

U want ur waves to progress further: kill their champions and clear that jungle as crazy.

The boss could be Veigar doom bot, 4 levels higher than the average summoner level with 24% more average gold and 9 item slots, + the Q stacks the same amount of average cs :D The gamemode name could be themed after a minion rebellion. Veigar is the king of minions :D

Buffs could be far away from lanes. Also, maybe have different lanes send different kinds of minions (which would make different champs be good against them), like have all strong melee minions in one lane, which an ADC with a tank would probably defend.

Question - would the defending team also have weaker minions? If you are the only one taking minion harass, it is actually quite strong.

There should be differing minions in each wave.

Tanks: Tons of health, armor, and even some magic resist. Doesn't do that much damage. They'll always target champions so that they take the brunt of the tower shots. Brutes: Somewhat sturdy, and deal noticeable damage at melee range. Focuses on killing enemy minions. Rangers: Ranged damage. Comes in right behind the others, and focuses the turrets. Strikers: Fast and deadly. Focuses on champions and will deal a lot of damage before being killed by turrets. Hexploders: Will pop on turrets and deal AoE damage based on how much health is left. Focuses turrets. Stealth: Infiltrates through the jungle and goes directly toward the nexus, weakening it. Makes vision a requirement and although may not be a threat early on, it can shut you down for letting them get through if the minions have made progress, making you leave base even after the minion groups begin collecting there or risk not being able to kill it before it hits your nexus.

CC would end up being sorta useless, so they should buff it , making it last longer and weaken minions.

The only thing I can not-like in this idea is that it seems awefully pusher/jungler focussed. Altought, depending how strong the bosses are, maybe 1 adc would be good. ON that note, can I ask what role you would give assassins and supports?

Even as a temporary game mode, I can't shake the feeling it would get stale at least as quickly as URF did. But I like the idea, I just think the actual implementation looks off.

Yeah, I actually want PvE game-modes added to the game. Would really fill my craving for playing a game where I'm not having a bad day and getting frustrated in a PvP setting, you know?

I think this sounds amazing! I want it I want it I want it! I think it would be fun to have it be a 10 man game. Soraka's ult would be epic with 10 people on her team. xD

This would be aweeesomme. You could include different bosses either for the trolls (Giant Urf Ghost anyone?) or for strategic diversity so that certain champs would be better vs these bosses so waveclear champs don't rule the game.

Thinking if they tweak the certain champion skills that only afect champions to affect minions as well... It could work right?

AerMegildur4/5/2015, 3:21:12 AM1 votes

I love this idea! It'd be awesome if the waves were endless though so you could compare high scores. Mordekaiser /Malzahar /Thresh /Nasus /Singed alright I've got 2 for wave clear, 2 with endlessly increasing stats to keep up and a tank with wave clear to distract minions!

I think it could be fun if there were teams at each nexus and they competed to survive longer.

Soda Popkillski4/5/2015, 10:43:33 AM1 votes

Another addition:

AOI spells deal 70% less damage to minions.

SyrupNWaffles4/5/2015, 1:30:08 PM1 votes

This reminds me of Tower Defense but... Champion defense? xD

The waves could also be dragon and maybe baron as the last minion wave or something, to make it more interesting

Hope Riot considers this! :D

You should definitely attack the enemy team sometimes to make it harder for them to defend against the minions. Like 4 defend your base and one bothers the enemy team.

Occams Raiser4/5/2015, 5:57:42 PM1 votes

The one problem with this is LOL is a game of math and numbers. By figuring out who hast the greatest wave clear per second, you can determine who the best and only champs are in this mode and how long they can possibly last. before the are overrun. Tower defense games works cause you have control of AI pathing a lot of times. Many of those games give you unfetter ability to add armaments to your defense. In LOL they would have to compensate by letting you build more items in a larger inventory with no cdr or AS restraint. Now that would be funny to see.

SociopathFriend4/5/2015, 9:47:35 PM1 votes

While a neat idea- many champions are entirely worthless just for clearing waves of creeps.

Co-Op VS AI?

Az3Roth4/6/2015, 2:40:46 PM1 votes

this game mode was something i had in mind for a long time. {{summoner:2}} This game mode though it is against of AI minions and bosses it can be made pvp by making 2 teams playing against each other seeing who will survive higher number of waves. But if both manage to take out all the waves then it rewards both the teams with equal IP. If one team wins that is there nexus is till intact while the enemies one is destroyed then the usual IP can be given that is more for the victorious team and less for the defeated one just like on the rift. I think this game mode could enhance teamwork as they have to think together in order to defend base and all are reasn for either winning or losing the game , as all players would have to protect lane and no one is fed or falling behind in terms of gold as global gold is awarded for the entire team.{{summoner:17}} Nice idea i wish riot takes it up :D

Prince Noobcake8/8/2015, 4:51:06 AM1 votes

This sounds like brilliant idea. I like the idea of PVE instead of PVP because I think players are less likely to be toxic towards eachother when they feel they will have a natural desire to encourage the less experienced players to do their best instead straight up humiliating them for sucking.

Summoners Rift and the other maps are just getting old and the game-play rules are facing the law diminishing returns. Riot games needs to come up with new flavors that are permanent if they want to keep their fan-base motivated.

This idea is very similar mod in Warcraft III called "Legion TD". If Riot wants this mode to be PVP, it can be a competition who's team survives the most waves and has their nexus standing.

tifas left elbow4/4/2015, 10:26:01 PM1 votes

I'd get behind that. Kinda reminds me of Horde mode from Gears of War.

Netechma4/4/2015, 10:46:55 PM1 votes

I agree with this idea, but games should be 10-20 min

Dat cool kid4/4/2015, 10:57:16 PM1 votes

the times between waves and at the start is a little too long but other than that its a great gamemode

Chezera4/4/2015, 11:10:52 PM1 votes
