So who functions in URF mode?

So far I have a terrible track record. I've tried Pantheon and Akali, and they've both resulted in I press a button and then vaporize instantly against anyone I try to fight. I've apparently missed the bus where everyone realized who's good.

I don't care if a champ is OP, I just want someone who can actually hold their own to at least some capacity, instead of getting to cast precisely one spell before melting in any fight. Who should I try?
