New 5vs5 Map, Anyone?

Greeting fellow Rioter,

There is a clear need for a new map. A map on par with Summoner's rift. The reasons simply because playing on the same map and theme gets old (every1 from season 2 says the game is getting old) and I think there are enough champions, over 100, for one standard map, don't u think so too?

So why hasn't Riot made one already? Many reasons, but I'd guess because they're afraid that a second NEW"official" map would overshadow and put down Summoner's Rift. Well, all this is nonsense if they put it in ranked 5vs5 and set map as a random. The standards are set in ranked.

In my humble opinion, the new map should be:

  • 5vs5 so that it will be same as the "standard" Summoner's Rift, the reason: the map on which contests and champions are designed based on is 5vs5; the more players, the more teamwork and sport like it is. Not 5vs5 might split player-base which riot doesn't want to think about

  • obviously a different theme,music & shape, I think the Magma Chamber map was on the right track. See the picture link below.

  • is available on ranked 5vs5, perhaps the map is randomly chosen (picking it would mean more waiting time)

Concerns:

  • Meta will be different on different maps :::::: imo (in my opinion), it should be similar because is still 5vs5 also, the meta is always changing and should not be the target. On the other hand, the vision of preparing for unknown arena of either lush green or lava red would be so awesome! keep things fresh!

Do check out Magma Chamber if you haven't seen this map riot was working on a while back. It was initially a 5vs5 map idea I recall but then it turned into 1vs1 or something and now totally disappeared. [link)]

Do bump this thread up, like this thread and vote if you really want this to happen. Oh, and check it and other similar threads periodically.

Magma Chamber was scrapped because Riot felt the concept was too close to SR to be worthwhile to produce. They instead developed the idea into Dominion and released that. Later on, the "fiery map" theme was brought back for a 1v1/2v2 game mode used for All-Stars. This new iteration of Magma Chamber was later scrapped, based on the playerbase's lack of enthusiasm for the Snowdown Showdown Featured Game Mode.

Anyway, slotting a new map into ranked would be a tricky idea. Unless the map is identical aside from visuals, map differences will result in different metas. Relative champion strengths would vary between the maps and thus make balance a pain. Heroes of the Storm manages because it's designed and balanced around having randomly-chosen maps, but League doesn't really have that aspect. As such, any new game modes probably shouldn't share rankings with SR. Of course, if a new ranked queue is added, then existing game modes should take priority, given how long they've been around.

Magma chamber was cancelled due to other projects taking precedence, and I agree that the SR update did take priority, but I also agree for the (maybe not need but) extreme benefit of a new 5v5 Classic mode Map. A huge number of video games out there lend to the idea of having different layouts and objectives under a certain gamemode. The only concern I have is linking the new map's ranked system to SR's. The new map could drastically shift item values, or champ viability do to positioning or objectives. This could be very good or very bad, it could more greatly establish a niche for certain champs in their roles, but at the same time it can upset the accuracy of ranked values. For instance, a champ on (for the sake of clarity I'm going to say Magma Chamber rather than 'new map') Magma Chamber might have a staggeringly high winrate but is a very poor pick on SR, the difference between two might cause issues in ranked that I cannot fully predict. The likely (and unappealing) solution is to seperate SR and Magma Chamber ranked ques.

YESSS please i cant stand SR anymore its so boring and I've wanted them to make a new map for so long.
