Who would win: Syndra vs Veigar

Syndra vs Veigar

This fight is based off lore, not gameplay. Veigar, often underestimated by others, is a master practitioner of dark celestial sorcery. Captured and tormented by warlord now known as Mordekaiser, he was granted dark power which turned him evil. Now, Veigar seek to bring all to their knees and eviscerate those who dares to underestimate him. Syndra on the other hand was gifted with reckless wild magic so powerful that she has to be send away to be taught to control it. She is able to rip apart terrains and fortresses and raise them into the sky effortlessly.

Both individuals possess incredible powers, if they are to meet in combat, who would win?

My guess is that Veigar would kill Syndra thinking that she is a hero of Ionia, then people would thank him for doing that and he would be confused, as always.

I mean, that is what his lore says that he does best.

It's a matter of talent vs. learning, and Veigar's spent a lot more time learning his magic than Syndra, along with already being magically inclined.

Although, if we're going to follow the trends in the lore... Veigar would probably screw up in a way that ends up helping her. Not helping her win, but maybe making her cupcakes on accident or something.

honestly, we have no idea of the combat capabilities of these characters. these threads dont tend to go anywhere meaningful

sorry to be a buzzkill, it's just more than a little difficult to decide these things

Veigar killed an evil wizard As far as we know, Syndra has never done such thing.

Based on those feats, Veigar should demolish

Syndra did lift half a fortress with telekinessis tho. If you ask me that's more impressive than killing random wizard npc we know nothing about

This is not a fight between a fortress and an evil fortresss, this is a fight between a wizard and an evil wizard.

Syndra has not killed an EVIL WIZZARD. Veigar has done that.

So, who wins, the evil wizard that has killed wizards, or the wizard that has not killed evil wizards?

My vote goes for the one that has actually killed wizards.

If Veigar was a fortress, then my vote would go to Syndra, but no, Veigar is not a fortress.

Sure, he may look like a giant sometimes, but that does not mean that he is a fortress.

But Syndra by herself has much greater feats than that NPC wizard so that doesn't mean Veigar would automatically be greater than her because of defeating that npc wizard, who was a local threat to a village while Syndra is a threat to the whole Ionia

That is assuming things that we dont know for sure.

But do you know what is 100% confirmed?

That Veigar killed an evil wizard. Syndra didnt.

So far, the only power that Syndra has is lifting things... Sure, she can lift super heavy things, but that is all. Her magic can affect spirits? I dont know, so, i cant say for sure that she could affect a timeless spirit like Veigar.

The lore of Veigar in other hand states that he can: "call down the fury of the stars themselves upon his foes, and trap them in the timeless infinities between moments."

Using the power of multiple stars sound way more impressive than lifting a bunch of rocks. He is basically using the same power that AurelionSol ,Leona use.

And that "stun" that he can do seems like it would be terrifying.

Also, lets not forget that Mordekaiser got most of the things that he has thanks to the enchantments of Veigar, and that was BEFORE being corrupted by the tincan.

You are the one assuming a local village threat is bigger than an island-level threat. Powerscaling doesn't work that way.

But do you know what is 100% confirmed?

That Veigar killed a wizard. Syndra didnt.

And Syndra killed several people, raised half a fucking fortress, she also killed her master who btw was also a wizard, and ravaged an entire island.

So far, the only power that Syndra has is lifting things... Sure, she can lift super heavy things, but that is all. Her magic can affect spirits? I dont know, so, i cant say for sure that she could affect a timeless spirit like Veigar.

Actually her powers directly harm spirits.

This powerful ability had been dormant until now. It flared with volatile strength, the orbs like pearls of negativity that leached the spirit magic from the world around her, draining the ghost-willow of its life essence.

The lore of Veigar in other hand states that he can: "call down the fury of the stars themselves upon his foes, and trap them in the timeless infinities between moments."

Using the power of multiple stars sound way more impressive than lifting a bunch of rocks.

It would be, if Veigar controled stars themselves. Fury of the starts doesn't necesarly mean stars themselves, but celestial magic in general

And that "stun" that he can do seems like it would be terrifying.

Sure it would be, but so is telekinessis

I just want to point out, that at first i posted the whole fortress and wizards thing as a joke... but whatever.

"Harm" is not really the word that i would use... Spirits get corrupted by negative energies. That is what we see in the lore of Syndra and Veigar (and Maokai if i remember correctly). The Spirit of Ionia didnt wanted to be corrupted, so, it trapped Syndra. Sure, we could say that she managed to absorb the life essence of the Ghost-Willow and she could do the same with Veigar, but considering that he "worked" for Mordekaiser, i doubt that such thing would kill Veigar.

Veigar is the perfect counter of Syndra. She is a mage that corrupts spirits due her negative energy until she gets trapped, and Veigar is a corruped spirit that gets stronger by negative enegies and knows how to trap people to stop them and kill them.

Celestial magic in general is stronger than telekinessis.

And by the way... i want to quote this:

{quoted}

Regarding the main topic, I'd say they are more or less equal with a slight edge to Ryze because I tend to favour experience and knowledge of magic more than raw power. Both are incredibly powerfull mages tho

Guess who has more experience and knowledge than Syndra? That is right, Veigar. And im pretty sure that he has more raw power than her as well.

Morde didn't want to kill Veigar since he was using him as a tool

Fair point

Celestial magic in general is stronger than telekinessis.

There is no stronger or weaker magic type. Only stronger and weaker users but a magic type itself isn't automatically weaker than another

And by the way... i want to quote this:

That is indeed true. But imo there's a difference. The raw power gap is much bigger here (until we see more of Veigar but atm Im basing this off what we saw), and Veigar doesn't have nearly as much experience or knowledge as Ryze

Ebonmaw Dragon2 votes

Fair point. But consider this: Mordekaiser used Veigar as a tool and Mordekaiser is very powerful, because he (or any other mage that he knew (like Lebanc)) wasnt capable of doing things that Veigar can do. Mordekaiser, the dude who conquered half of the world, used Veigar to terrorize others... that alone is an impressive feat to consider.

I disagree. Im not an expert in physics but: "In physics, mass–energy equivalence states that anything having mass has an equivalent amount of energy and vice versa"

Considering that, the energy required to... lets say... move a big rock is more than the energy required to move a feather. The same could be applied to magic, the energy that you need to use to call down the fury of stars, that are faaar away from Runeterra, is more than the energy that you would need to move a castle that is next to you.

Sure, we could say that "its magic, so it doesnt need to follow the rules of physics"... But even if that is true, i dont think that the magic of... controling inmaterial souls is "as strong" as the magic of controling solid rocks (just an example). One thing is more complex than the other, if it is more complex, it is harder to master and control... Because it is more powerfull.

Are you going to tell me that Rune magic, the magic that can literally destroy the world, is as strong as the hextech that Viktor uses to heat his sweetmilk? Its not. Sure that the person who uses the magic is important, as well, but you cant tell me that a magic that moves rocks is as powerfull as a magic that creates lasers of pure energy for example.

That is indeed true. But imo there's a difference. The raw power gap is much bigger here (until we see more of Veigar but atm Im basing this off what we saw), and Veigar doesn't have nearly as much experience or knowledge as Ryze

Im not saying that Veigar has more experience than Ryze, but both of them have more experience and knowledge than Syndra.

And the powergap thing depends if you think that using cosmic magic, that so far has only been used by the most powerful beings in LoL, is not that powerfull in comparison with moving a fortress... or not.

This is more headcanon-ish tbh. But we aren't even sure if the stars in the Runeterra universe act like they do irl. We know Runeterra is somehow not just a planet but a dimension of it's own so it's rly unclear. And while one thing may be more complex, it doesn't necesarly mean it's more powerful overall. I do belive a certain magic type is better at doing smth than the other are and same goes to each of the types, but it doesn't mean one is by itself overall more powerful. And the amount of force needed to do some irl physics calculation doesn't work because as you said, it's magic. Otherwise Ryze would generate energy greater than a World Rune does every time he teleports.

Are you going to tell me that Rune magic, the magic that can literally destroy the world, is as strong as the hextech that Viktor uses to heat his sweetmilk? Its not. Hextech is not entirly magic. It's handicapped magic because it uses for the most part synthethic batteries of magical energy to power devices, tools and weapons.

Im not saying that Veigar has more experience than Ryze, but both of them have more experience and knowledge than Syndra.

And the powergap thing depends if you think that using cosmic magic, that so far has only been used by the most powerful beings in LoL, is not that powerfull in comparison with moving a fortress... or not.

Again I don't think there's a most powerful magic type

You say that as if Mordekaiser, the powerhungry overlord that wants to rule over everything, can learn to use Celestial magic, but he didnt because its boring or something... and neither did all the other mages that he has ever meet. The only idiots that bothered in obtainig Cosmic Magic are those who have godlike powers now... and Veigar. Okay sure.

But regardless if Celestial Magic is more or less powerfull than other types of magic, the point of the thread is who would win in a fight: Syndra or Veigar

HOW would Syndra defeat Veigar?

The very first thing that Syndra needs to do to defeat Veigar, is to actually notice that he is a threat to her... and Yordles have Glamour that prevents them of being noticed as threats at first. And even if she is not affected by the Glamour, she would understimate Veigar due her big ego (and everyone understimate Veigar).

Then, she would have to find a way to kill the Yordle... and so far yordles seem to be hard to kill. Sure, she could try to send her balls towards him, throw a castle at Veigar or anything... But in the lore, Veigar should be able to stop those things with his trap and/or protect himself with magical enchantments (or escape using a portal).

In other hand, the only 2 things that Veigar needs to do to kill her, is trap her in his stun, and stab her in the heart with the spikes of his gauntlet since she is a human and humans die when they are stabbed in the heart. While trapped, Syndra cant defend herself... that is actually part of her lore.

He can't create portals. Mordekaiser has bound him to Runeterra and thus he isn't able to use portals like other Yordles can. Also Syndra can also just pick up Veigar himself and throw him around. And since Veigar hasn't yet demonstrated some ability that could be usefull against continous telekinessis applied on him, yeah...

In other hand, the only 2 things that Veigar needs to do to kill her, is trap her in his stun, and stab her in the heart with the spikes of his gauntlet since she is a human and humans die when they are stabbed in the heart. Well she did stop an assasin from knifing her ass right after waking up by sheer force of will so yeah. The same trap argument goes against Veigar with Syndra's telekinessis directly applied to him but the difference is, the telekinessis is instant.

Well, that is not something actually mentioned in the lore as far as i know. In other hand, it is stated in his lore that people understimate him.

He can't create portals. Mordekaiser has bound him to Runeterra and thus he isn't able to use portals like other Yordles can.

Normal yordles can use portals, but not all of them can create portals... that is why they need to go to specific places of Runeterra in order to enter to Bandle. If Veigar wasnt one of those yordles that can create portals (Like the master of Yumii), then Mordekaiser would not need to "bound Veigar to the physical plane" because imprison him in a jail would do the job (because he would be unable to reach the very specific places that most of the yordles use). The imprisonment of Veigar ended when when Mordekaiser was defeated, so, he is able to use the portals that Mordekaiser did not let him do once again.

Also Syndra can also just pick up Veigar himself and throw him around. And since Veigar hasn't yet demonstrated some ability that could be usefull against continous telekinessis applied on him, yeah...

You are missing the point mentioned before... Sure, she can kill Veigar, but in order to do that, the very first thing that Syndra needs to do to defeat Veigar, _is to actually notice that he is a threat to her... _

The problem for Syndra here, is that she would be dead before noticing that he is a threat to her. If Veigar attacks her, she dies. Simple as that. The one who attack first is the one who wins... and the Glamour prevents Syndra from doing that... Unless you tell me that she would use all her powers to instantly kill an small child (or something like that).

And Veigar has demostrated some ability that could be usefull against continous telekinessis applied on him... you know, the stun that is beyond human comprenhension since it feels like being trapped during an infinite (literally) moment. Only a timeless creature would not become insane if it get trapped by that thing.

Well she did stop an assasin from knifing her ass right after waking up by sheer force of will so yeah. The same trap argument goes against Veigar with Syndra's telekinessis directly applied to him but the difference is, the telekinessis is instant.

The key word here is... "right after waking up", she cant do that is she is dead before that. And even if she "wakes up" from the stun, she would not even remeber who is she, where she is or who is Veigar because the stun of Veigar fells like it is infinite and the human mind is not capable of grasping infinity, let alone feel it.

The point is that, even if the Cosmic Magic was useful to Mordekaiser, Veigar was the only one able to use it... even if Morde has known tons of mages before and after meeting Veigar. He saw that the Magic of Veigar was going to be usefull for his war against the whole world, that is why he captured him.

Veigar was imprisoned by Morde in 2 ways. Magically by being bound to this realm, and physically by being in...well a prison. He is still bounded to this realm.

The lore does not mention that he still bound to the physical realm. That breaks the whole point about Veigar doing what he does now by choice... Sure, he does not remember Bandle City specifically, but that is not because the spell that Mordekaiser used on him.

Yordles don't look like small children when in glamour tho (most of the times). Plus Veigar uses his glamour to make himself more threatening

Veigar TRIES to make himself more threatening, but it does not work. The Villagers in his short story did not saw Veigar as an acutal threat. That is the point, regarless if Veigar looks like a giant monster, and old man or a tiny child, he wont be percieved as a threat, Syndra wont be able to recognize the threat that he is until is too late for her.

And regardless of that, Syndra does not kill people for no reason (“I do not know who these Noxians are that you speak of,” Syndra replied. “But if they killed my people, then perhaps I owe them thanks. The only tyranny I experienced was at the hands of those I once called kin.”“Kill you?” said Syndra, her lip curling in rage. “No. That would be too clean an end for you.”), Veigar in other hand, does that... and feels proud about it ("Veigar, Great Master of Evil, who has defeated countless arcane foes in my quest for ever greater—”)

Telekinesiss is instant. Is his stun instant?

In the lore, Veigar should still be able to use his magic if Syndra lift him, her magic does not work on a mental level like the stun of Veigar... Her "stun" does not "stun" the person completely. (When Syndra used her "stun" on a normal human being, the human "struggled against it, flailing wildly, but might as well have been trying to fight the rising tide. She was as helpless as a kitten in the mouth of its mother.")

The stun of Veigar is not instant in the game now due balance purposes (it was instant after all), but we do not know if it works like that in the lore... after all, most of the spells in game show an small portion of what champions can do in the lore for real.
