DARKIN CONSPIRACY TIME!

So with the varus lore bomb, we now have a little more info about the darkin.

There are 5 darkins in present runeterra. Varus Aatrox Rhaast 2 unknown ones. ATLEAST one of which is a female.

Now with the female darkin, it's not to say the champion WILL be female, but that the darkin weapon spirit thingy is. A female darkin possessing a male body is also totally possible so let's talk about some possible existing champions.

BRAND - This one is based on the lore story when varus was searching through the tomb that was imprisonning the spirit released by xerath, brand. Now, darkins are not necessarily weapons per say but spirits/demons/things imprisoned in them. So what if, brand was one of the darkins that was NOT imprisoned into a weapon but sealed by the coffin instead and currently possesses the male body of xerath.

This however, falls apart when looking at the timelines of things. We know the darkin war occured after the fall of shurima, thus we can pretty safely assume that the imprisonment of the darkins also happened around that time, causing this theory to fail.

Irelia- hmm, living weapon. Irelia rework. Irelia rework followed by AATROX REWORK?! It seems like it's lining up pretty nicely. Considering that the ionians were part of the darkin war and were holding both Rhaast AND varus in their captivity, it would have been very possible for then to be holding more darkin weapon prisons. So with irelia's shabby ass lich lore and soraka's lore also getting changed, they could very well rewrite irelia to be a wielder of a darkin with the twist that she has full control of the darkin.

Now onto a more tinfoil hat theory. So far, the darkins seem to be based on the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse and til late, we have 3 of them fit the description pretty well.

Aatrox - war. Like duh.

Varus - conquest/pestilence. The disease stuff and the bow. A pretty good fit.

Rhaast - death(this one is purely cause of the scythe. Shadow assassin kayn actually feels more like death)

Famine - it's likely the next one will be famine. Scales ain't the most amazing weapon tho. So we will have to see how riot innovates on this.

And then there is a fifth darkin. Probably their leader or the strongest / rogue darkin. Perhaps this would be the darkin which isn't so hellbent on vengeance and possibly irelia's darkin weapon if that theory is true.

Then again. They could just release 2 new darkin champs :)

Just posted this one (on reddit as well): https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/story-art/m6tzLRZo-interesting-female-darkin-theory :

Theory "Blood magic? We gave that to you" This whole new lore update / comic includes this quote to explain that the Darkin were the original blood mages, who granted this gift to the mortals some time ago. This new Darkin might possibly be a blood mage of sort. However we already have Vladimir so a blood mage thematic would have to have something completely different to Vlad or play a different role.

I like to pose a theory that the new champion might be a support of sort that damages, or saps, the life-force out of enemies and heals allies. Think of the physical manifestation of the item Redemption. Aatrox's 'mana' bar is called 'blood', so what could be a cool idea is whenever this champion damages an enemy with an ability and saps the blood, it fills up the secondary bar which can be stored and used to heal allies - sort of like Athene's Unholy Grail, where you damage enemies and store charges to heal. So as a weapon or item, they might have an amulet of sorts that holds the stored blood charges that is the darkin.

Varus sighed. “Where are you, sister?” he said. This here hints that Varus' first mission is to find his sister, so will we see the first female Darkin in the game?

No to female Darkin, yes to a Darkin having a female host body. Totally yes to Darkin being sexless beings that only take sex and gender forms when they take a host body of a sex and gendered being.

Well the Darkin Scales does imply 2. Maybe the next Darkin is actually a pair of Darkin who can work independently. One all about taking for herself and using the scale as some kind of shield, while the other is all about giving and is the black sheep of the Darkin, one who uses her scale as a shield to protect others, which leaves the rest of the scale being chains and a balancing rod.

....Come to think of it I think we already have a pair of champions who use chains, a rod, and each have a shield. Kayle Morgana

Oh and look, one is a fiery headed gold clad warrior queen, just like in the story.

Brand, I don't know... Maybe. But I don't get the darkin vibe from him really.

Also, to me it read as if the Darkin were there before Shurima ever even existed, not after it's fall but before it was even a thing because the temple he goes into was built after the war and it seems to hold a depiction of the Shuriman sun disk.

And I think Aatrox was the leader. The war fell apart when he was defeated. And I think Pestilence might be the name of the 5th one, we have 4 horseman, one which has 2 very different names. Pestilence is a different name for war, not conquest.

Where did you read that brand was released by Xerath? Or that Varus found brand in that tomb? ect... Brand's story is a whole lot different. Telling about a man who enters a cave in a frozen wasteland and gets transformed into brand.
