Ahri and Xayah

So in a past post either on Reddit or an AMA, a rioter stated that Xayah did not like Ahri because she wanted to be human and that was betraying the Vastayan race. With the release of Ahri's new lore, we see that Ahri does not have that desire to be human but instead a desire to know where she came from. So does Xayah still hate Ahri or is that original statement of now wrong and there is a different reason as to why she doesn't like Ahri??

I doubt that Ahris desire to be human was fully retconned within the span of a few days.

It is possible that Ahri finding out where she came from is basically Act1 of her story and her wanting to become human is the final act. I mean Garen and Katarina haven't even met in Garens new lore, but we know that the 2 will eventually meet and fall in love with each other.

I think if anything Xayah would be pissed about Ahri falling in love with a..with a...HUMAN

Probably still true due to the fact that ahris boyfriend was a human

Ahri naturally wants to eat people and stuff right but once she gets their memories she is like "wow I shouldn't eat them" so she tries to hold back her spooky monster side. Xayah dislikes this about Ahri cause Ahri without her monster eating side is pretty much just a human, denying her fox monster AHHH!

However Xayah doesn't notice that Ahri has no background at all. Xayah has her Vatasya dance stuff and feathers but Ahri has nothing so the only thing she could be is human if she is suppressing her spooky monster urges. Also of course Ahri doesn't have fox culture cause I imagine she was with normal foxes, she doesn't like do fox this for culture.

I asked myself the same question after reading her new lore!! I'm happy that i was not the only one confused haha. Well, from her new stories i get three main things:

1) Ahri is an addict. An addiction is defined as "a disorder characterized by compulsive engagament in rewarding stimuli despite adverse consequences", in Ahri's case these consequences are: psychological stress manifested as guilt, low self esteem (hating herself/what she is); feeling that she and/or her magic gets weaker (this is more tricky, i personally think this is psychological too because she was completely fine before stealing "essence" for the first time so she doesnt really needs it, but if her body gets so used to this "essence" that it's "unable" to function without the stimuli, then it can be physical aswell); and social difficulties (having a hard time interacting properly with others without wanting to feed from them, feeling that she is not worthy of bonding with others, and the risk of killing others around her during a relapse), so...seriously, she is sick!!

2) Ahri accept the fact that she is sick. Luckily, she recognized that she has a problem (unfortunately in a hard way) and want to get better. In her bio we are told "No more would she rely on borrowed memories and unfamiliar dreams", so it looks like she wants to learn to live her life without the aid of stealed "essence" (her drug), we can even link this to a real life example: an alcoholic that don't want to rely on drinking to have fun or be happy.

3) Ahri wants to know about her origins. Unlike other vastayan, Ahri didn't have the luxury of having a tribe, sure, she is a vastaya, but she was raised by foxes and learn things on her own or by stealing memories, so she has a desire to know where she came from and if there are more people like her who can help her to fully understand herself.

So, from point 1 and 2 i don't know why Xayah would hate her for "betraying her heritage", i mean sure ahri is an addict but she wants to change, and that's a good thing because by being sick she is dangerous to herself and others (that includes other vastaya!) so if anything Xayah (and everybody) should encourage her to change, especially since Ahri's dislike for her own nature (the only thing i can think that can annoy Xayah) is caused by the psychological stress stemmed from her addiction so she can't start to accept herself until she is cured...Then, from point 3 it make even less sense, Ahri is searching for her people (her people being vastayan) so she is trying to embrace her heritage...something that Xayah (a vastayan elitist) should be proud of!!

In the end i think that we can conclude that maybe (as @GreenLore said before) the stories are only a part of Ahri journey and she eventually will want to become human and her interaction with Xayah ingame reflect that future or...Xayah is just a jerk.

I've also read somewhere that the champion quotes are them speaking from their own perspective. Xayah could simply have heard a rumor that Ahri's trying to become human and believed it (the same AMA suggested the two have probably never met).

That said, I doubt Xayah would be able to convince Ahri to join her cause if she tried:

  • Ahri's more focused on finding out what she is than anything else.
  • She has no strong ties to the Vestayans. She lived mostly among regular foxes and humans when she was young.
  • Her guilt for her past would probably dissuade her from wanting to participate in murder and anarchy.
  • She has more positive experiences with humans than Xayah (and fell in love with one and feels terrible guilt for killing him). Compare their first encounter with a human: Xayah was attacked by them, while Ahri ran into a hunter who treated his kills similarly to how she and the other foxes did, which she respected him for. Ahri would be much more likely to approach humans on a case by case basis.
  • On the other hand, her only confirmed interaction with another Vestayan almost resulted in having one of her tails stolen.
  • Ahri seems to travel alone for the most part. She wouldn't likely want to get tied down in a cause when she already has a goal to reach for.

it doesn't matter because riot keeps making random lores. they don't even care about the lore anyways.they just glue things up until it becomes a mess.

I would love to get a rioters comment to clear it up but these are all interesting thoughts for sure

I think it is more of a desire to connect better with humans (outside of the connection that I would have with a good steak) that xayah doesn't like. It could very well be good ol' literal racism.

Actually now that you mention it.....yah it's super confusing that Xayah would dislike Ahri since Ahri basically has like....nothing besides what she carries? No family, no friends and not even a home. Then she made out with some guy, accidentally killed him because evil spooky magic before going into a depression.

Then we jump forward and suddenly Xayah hates her which doesn't seem to make a lot of sense, what happened in the meanwhile?? O_O
