I know that Aatrox just get a GU, but he is on the list for the next VGU. So will a VGU Team do his rework. Sure the lore and the art style will be the same, but

The champion update page doesn't just list the work of the VGU teams,but also lists the work of other teams.

mr Boombastic7872 votesWhy I think it will be by a VGU/new-champ-team is because he will need tons of vfx artist time since pretty much all of his abilitys are being changed. Also it is likely that he and the Darkins gets a lore update or at least we'll get more information about them.
Of course it could be done by the live gameplay team but I believe it will be for the champ/VGU team for the reason above

GreenLore1 votesWe currently have two VGU teams and three new champion teams. In the future, **we will have **five teams that can do either new champions or VGUs, depending on what we feel makes the most sense for that point in time.
He clarifies that they plan to have these teams,so that they can do VGUs or Champions. That means that this isn't something that they currently have,but something that they will have in the future.
And he says that these teams will do VGUs or Champions,but Aatrox only gets a GU,so this doesn't include him.

GreenLore1 votesYes,but new skills and skilleffects were always something that was done with the roster updates(look at the new ults for Maokai or Zac). And while they never did new lore udpates,they did do other updates from time to time as well(like Maokais new VO or the new textures for Malzahar and Zyra).
Aatrox is just a bigger update,because now they don't have to focus their resources on an entire class and can instead focus them on a few champions.

About the lore thing I think it would be the perfect opertunity for some Darkin lore event. Since this isn't a class update I do not se why not to bring some new lore since the Darkins are kinda a fan favorit topic.
Though the gameplay live could still do the update and also another narrative team release lore at the same time wich is just as likely as what I believe is going to happen.

I kinda doubt that we'll get a darkin lore event unless we actually get a second darkin.(But then again,the next champ might be a darkin)

mr Boombastic7871 votesThe lore is not about champions, but about characters. So it could introduce us to other Darkin/s or related characters.
I do not expect a full blown event even if that would be nice, but I would expect some more info on them and updated lore for Aatrox, since we hardly know anything about them.
We also have Tryndamere who got his powers from Aatrox. It don't even have to be more info about the Darkins, it could be a short story of a battle Aatrox was in or maybe the battle that Tryndamere fought and Aatrox joined.
GreenLore1 votesThe thing is that with only 5 darkins it is unlikely that any darkin would be a lore only character.
And Riot likely wants to avoid introducine a character in the lore before making them a champion(the last times they did this were with Illaoi,who was already far in production when she appeared in the lore and Lissandra,who ended up as a complete deceiver whose appearances before her reveal turned out to be a big lie)
Anyway,it looks like our next champion is going to be a darkin,so I guess we'll get some darkin lore anyway.

GreenLore1 votesOverall they said that they want the teams to be able to do VGUs or champions. That means they won't do anything else.
Also keep in mind that we always had the guys who did the roster updates. They are the ones who'll do the aatrox update.
