Riot can you remove the expiration date on Prestige Points?

I have 39 Prestige Points that I've collected them from masterwork chests that I buy with leftover RP after getting a pack or something and from something else idk what honestly (for those of you that judge me buying masterwork chests, don't. I'm pretty lucky with them and I've gotten like 4 legendary skins from them). However, I didn't know that prestige points expired. I figured that I would eventually reach 100, but it's kind of dumb that they expire. I searched up why, and no one seems to agree with the idea that it expires and just says it's a way to make money.

Riot, if you're there, please listen to your players and get rid of the expiration date of prestige points. If anything, at least give a reward like hextech chests from prestige points that expire. I find it hard to believe that you would make something that people spend money on to expire. If I had known they expired, I probably would not have bought the masterwork chests in the first place. Please Riot, this really is a system that nobody approves of.

Before the end of the year there will be a Prestige Point shop where you can purchase items that cost less then 100 points. Like grab bags, exclusive emotes and icons, and if you have a really small number, blue and orange essence.

While true, I still believe they shouldn't ever expire. The skins can go into the vault but players should be able to rollover prestige points to attempt to buy 2020 prestige skins. Prestige points are only purchaseable with money, and many sat on their prestige points or bought more (over time) since they were hoping for a skin they'd like to come along. Now that we know the skins for the rest of 2019, some players may not like those skins - but bought prestige points before being told the plan and now have to spend them on items they do not want. Normally I'm all for this if the currency is free, such as tokens during events or blue essence earned via games.

Unfortunately, prestige points are a bought item and the equivalent would be riot expiring my saved RP or even worse and more closer to the accurate feeling, if they removed my leftover gemstones - saying that they would release new hextech skins next year and I can earn gemstones then. While it is nice to be able to spend the prestige points its not really equivalent. For such an expensive item players should be able to roll them over or at least get something more controlled of a reward- like RP to buy whatever they want instead of a glorified loot box.

I know these aren't 1-1 equivalent but seriously, that logic is bad. If you apply it to pretty much anything else it sounds horrible. The only thing that should be resetting is your rank, and even then Riot feels a soft reset is in order so players aren't punished too hard.

Allow me to pose a counter-argument: Event tokens expire at the end of the event. If you don't spend them, they're just gone. Should there simply be a universal "Token" currency that's valid during any and all events? Perhaps. The difference being, of course, that Tokens can be earned. Prestige Points are (almost) exclusively acquired by spending money.

No, and that's how those tokens differ from prestige points: prestige points are recurring, not event-based. Event-based currency can expire because the event is over—this makes perfect sense. Having prestige points expire even though the products you can obtain with those points continue to exist does not make any sense.

I think the way Rito is viewing the Prestige Points is like a whole-year event. As far as I'm aware, the current Prestige skins also expire at the end of the year, so the points are for "season 1" of the skins. Next year is "season 2," so they want you to buy "season 2" points. Stupid regardless. It's like telling people their money expired.

You see, Prestige Skins for a certain year also "expire" after the said year. You won't be able to buy, for example Evelynn, in the year 2020. Because year 2020 will have its own set of Prestige Skins. They can still drop from the chests as they're essentially moved to the Vault (aka Legacy).

That being said, i don't think that Prestige Points should even expire. There's no difference in whether i played this Worlds event or the next Worlds event. I like the option where i can prepare in advance my PP so that i can purchase the skin i want when it comes out.

Riot took it one step further and made my main account expire. Good 10 year gift Riot for a 10 year account, sorry for using curse words. Maybe they'll fix ranked match making next season : ^ ). Oh yeah, can't make that face, it's considered too toxic

I think they should expire, but I find the expiration date too brutal. It should wait for the mid-season portion of the next season. You can still use your points for non-prestige skin things, so there's that.

Is there a single reason that these points that you have to pay money for that unlock specific skin chromas that are mostly only available during a certain event should expire?

At the very minimum a prestige skin costs 40$ and a lot of your time buying 4 seperate event passes. Riot gave us 25 for the anniversary, something they may not ever do again and they're going to expire anyway. If you end up getting these skins without an event in progress, you bought 100$ worth of masterwork chests.

This is essentially 40-100$ worth of content that you have to save up for. Now I know for a whale with a ridiculous amount of money that's no issue. And I know for Riot, they probably want people to have to spend every year so they can milk out more money. But for the players, the peole investing money for these points, what reason could their possibly be to actually WANT them to expire?

Prestige Points have been an absolute shit show since their conception. It was pulling teeth to even get them to concede to the modifications they did for event passes earlier this year, so it'll be tough to get them to budge here. They need to budge though, because consumers hate scummy business practices. Like Eternals.

To be honest, if you are investing MONEY solely into getting those points, it's because you have a reason to want them thus on how to spend them. If you know they'll expire before you can gather enough... don't buy them?? If you are paying for somehting that you KNOW that is temporary, and that you won't be able to use, just don't, it's a terrible decision.

The point about the expiration date is more about free users gathering some but not necessarily considering buying because nothing interests them. An extended treshold to spend them gives them more time to consider if they want or not to gather more or if its not worth it. AKA they should have the leverage to wait and see rather than rushing to spend them all since they know they'll expire soon.

The whole point of prestige points is getting exclusive skins that are only available temporarily, that is the sole value they have. Remove the reduced availlability, and they are not worth anything. Prestige points are also a bonus currency; you don't directly buy prestige points, or at least you shouldn't, you gather them by playing and getting actual rewards. If they don't expire, they are just a second instance of gemstones. Just as I said, you pay for actual rewards and get prestige points as a side note, you can't really complain "but I paid for those virtual gold points!", since the main purchase you are making is the actual item linked to the prestige points, like orbs. If you want to pay solely for prestige points and whale it out just to get just as much, you shouldn't have trouble to gather them all before the expiration date, but I don't recommend it personally since I don't think its worth it.

TLDR; prestige points are a bonus currency linked to limited rewards. Complaining about them expiring because you paid for it is just like complaining your 50% coupon that you got after buying a full meal at your local fast food expired. You don't buy full meals just to get coupons, you don't buy anything on the store solely for prestige points, you buy the meal and you buy the orbs/passes, thats it.

This. That coupon example is really apt, by the way. People don't seem to understand that the Prestige system is NOT another "product for sale" like normal skins or such. It's a BONUS system, as in an extra little reward for those who tend to buy a lot of boxes. On top of that, they've provided ways like Passes to get the skins for those who want them but don't normally go through the boxes reward path.

People need to realize prestige points aren't something they're entitled to, they're much less a commodity than just extra stuff.

I get so many free skins from lootboxes (that didn't always exist!) and I own 3 prestige skins from literally just grinding passes and buying a couple box sets to round out the +25 pass PPs. The saying is true, people get greedier the more you give them.

the very minimum skin cost is 10 not saying ur wrong but u can get one skin for 2200 tokens if u grind it throughout the month the event lasts

Here's my actual stance: Prestige Points should not expire. Removing the Prestige Editions that were released in that year is fine, though. It's essentially saying, "These limited-edition skins are available for purchase using Prestige Points until the end of the year." If you opt out or missed it, then they'll be gone for good. And that's fine. There are plenty of limited-edition things in the game already that can no longer be acquired (Silver Kayle, Young Ryze, etc.). Taking away something you've been accumulating and saving is highly objectionable. They feel that they can justify it by one, announcing which Champions will be getting Prestige Editions over the course of the year; and two, making items available in the shop that are priced such that one can bring any stray Points down to zero. This, however, doesn't make it right to me.

Because they expire I'm being forced to buy fucking Neeko and this Thresh skin that will be out probably this Christmas.

Firstly, no one can force you to do anything with your Prestige Points. Secondly, let's say Bard gets a Prestige Edition in 2020 or 2021. Just accumulate 100 Prestige Points during that year and you're all set.

It's tough keeping up with prestige skins, but that's what makes them valuable in the long run.

Right now I have enough tokens to convert towards MF, then around 35 points away from qiyana.

But then I hear true damage ekko and senna are getting ones as well after thresh.

They expire because Riot wants you to spend more $, and by creating an arbitrary limit they ensure that you can't really get the skins for free.

Those in charge of the decision making look at it from a pure business standpoint, and as such understand the psychological impact of 'losing' something; the desire to avoid it incentivizes behavior that would otherwise not occur.

It also exists in the Discount Store (the cards that pop up 'personalized'), and the Prestige system in general (limited availability to force action)
