@riot: Suggestions for adjusting the new God Staff Jax Skin before Patch 8.1 release.

Hello everyone (I know the title said @riot but I wanted to include others as well, just was hoping to grab a riot employees attention), for those of you who don't know me, I am one of the moderators of the Jaxmains subreddit, a Jax main youtuber & streamer, as well as the author of one of the most popular Jax guides on mobafire with over 4 million views. If you couldn't already tell, I am a huge Jax fan and usually support what riot does for him.

Now with that being said I do believe that riot has made a good epic skin concept for Jax (God Staff Jax). It matches the God Fist Lee Sin skin that riot released awhile ago (although God Fist Lee is a 1820 RP priced skin). It has been awhile since we have got a new skin (the last one we received was released October 1, 2015 being Warden Jax, a 750 RP skin that, in my opinion, wasn't so great) so I'm happy they are finally pushing a skin above 975 RP for Jax onto live servers. However me and some other Jax players do believe there are a few details that could be touched up on, so I was going to list a few suggestions that riot could hopefully touch up on.

  • The Mask/Face: I believe this is one of the most bothersome things about the skin. I don't really know what he is wearing over his revealed face (I'm guessing a pseudo mask or a hood??). I understand riot is trying to push the idea of "god skins should have their masks off to show their face" type of concept, but I'm not sure if it works for Jax since he's always been that mysterious champion. It could work if the face looked more appealing (maybe adding six eyes and making them glow a different color matching his six godly arms) So in my opinion either a) give him a great looking mask or b) make his face/eyes look more appealing with some color changes to match the skin.

  • The voice over/quotes: I believe this needs to be worked on a bit more. It doesn't sound godly enough to me. Also I'm pretty sure new quotes are for Legendary+ tier skins , but that doesn't mean new quotes should be ignored. This skin definitely has more potential to become a 1820 RP skin.

  • The dance: Ok I always enjoy watching Jax's base dance but I think we could add something different here ( maybe him juggling his staff around with his six arms?) Feel like it should be changed.

  • **The body: **Ok I understand you are trying to make him buff and look godly but... this is just too much bulk in my opinion. Slim him down a bit and give his body more color to match his god arms instead of being white with some gold.

  • The staff: I believe this has more potential. Make it so he's wielding a pure light staff or add a chain at the far end with some lit fire inside a black bowl (don't know what it's really called but I guess you guys know what I'm talking about)

All in all I believe this skin has much more potential to become a Legendary 1820 RP skin. Although it is nice that we are finally getting a skin above the 975 RP price, this is the one you choose to make 1350 RP while leaving so much more potential behind it. That is about all of the feedback I have for you guys at the moment. If I can think of anything else I'll let you know. Thank you all for reading and have a great day.

While I am disappointed that this skin had clear options for upgrades to be a 1820rp skin, I am far beyond excited that Jax is getting a skin that is worthy of the champ. I don't want to sound ungrateful, but there are some concerns that I'd like to voice, as well as reply to OP.

I understand that not every skin in every line is going to be of the same caliber, and that the decision to make Godstaff Jax a 1350rp skin was conscious and deliberate, and I accept that. Not everything can be given equal treatment, but I just want to express my desire for more, and the shameful feeling of disappointment when it didn't get the same treatment that Lee sin did.

The release of a new skin for Jax presented a unique opportunity in several ways:

  1. New VO. From what I remember, the reception around Lux receiving new voice lines for every skin was very very positive, and this skin provided an opportunity to expand jax's VO in the same way. 42 words. Many of jax's movement quotes are the same as his attach quotes! 42 words to create an identity and convey an idea: "I am the best, fight me". and it feels a bit of a waste to not use this opportunity to give jax a broader vocabulary and sense of bravado, not just on the skin, but also in general. WHERE IS THE "BITING SARCASM" IN GAME? DO I HAVE TO TRASH TALK FOR MY CHAMP? (honor level 4 btw)

  2. Narrative Expansion We know next to nothing about Jax than what we already know: Jax is confident in his melee ability, and "None Shall Pass" just continues that same thing, but we know nothing about his motivation to travel, or the downfall of icathia, or how he lived so long. I agree that some things are better kept in mystery just so that some champions can keep their intrigue, but at this point, certain skins have more lore and explanation attached to them than jax's entire character does.

  3. Promotional swag. I want a jax icon. I've been using a purple melee minion icon for nearly two years now.

  4. VFX I would have liked to have the 6armed ulti, but that's outside the scope of the project.

  5. UPDATED ICONS PLEASE?.. I DONT KNOW WHAT JAX'S ICONS MEAN. Fishing pole, sword on head, glowing jax, disarm, headsmack. amumu and mundo got new ones recently.

I know that 2,3, and 5 still have time to be revealed, but if they are completely absent, I will be a bit disappointed, because I know that Jax will not get another skin for 2-3 years, despite some characters getting clockwork "a skin a year" treatment, and i feel like this is an epic opportunity that isn't being poured into with the love that I want it to receive.

Now, despite all that, I do feel like there are some tweaks that can be done on this skin that are within the scope of a 1350 skin

His head is tucked into his collar piece, and it looks like a golf ball peeking out of a hole. I can't even look at his face if I tried, compare that to the clearly visible face region of his baseskin, it still manages to keep his actual face hidden on account of the mask, but the mask is visible.

I like it, but having him revealed to be a 2eye guy without any ceremony seems a bit odd. I get that this is a skin, but I don't remember a time when a champion's physiology is changed to accomodate a skin. He still has his 3 fingered hands, why not have a mask that leads us to believe 6 eyes? Is this the official reveal that Jax is a 2 eyed dude? Not with lore or any ceremony, but with a lone skin? I sure hope I'm wrong on this..

It looks "cute" and derpy with that tiny smile, and I didn't even know that this was the mask untill i frozeframe'd jax in certain poses. It is not badass. It needs to be more clear what is a mask and what isn't, and be able to distinguish his unmasked face from his masked face. How can you tell what's what if they're hidden?

I agree with op that the lack of a new godly dance animation is a bit disappointing.

I disagree with op in that I like his body's bulk. A lot of base jax's "mass" was taken up by his clothing. Reducing clothing, but increasing bulk makes jax seem more godly and matches his previous size to a degree.

It's thanks to Jax, that I started playing this game in Season 2 and he is the reason why I reinstalled the game during early season 6. And I guess I should also give my opinion to the skin of our beloved helicopter eggplant. Jax

I think everyone, who is saying that the skin could need some changes, are all glad that we even got a skin for Jax. But I also think that this skin has the potential to be a legendary skin. The back Animation teased us with his additional 4 arms, that are only used in his back- and death animation. His ult would feel so much better, if he would get the arms during it. Every time I use the ult, it feels underwhelming, even with this "godly" skin. And his e has probably the worst animation in the whole game. It looks so clunky when using the E and AA an enemy during that time. Jax is the Grandmaster of Arms, give him 2 more arms during his e, which he uses to punch his enemy. The whole story of Jax is, that he is a God damn monster that can fight everyone, even with his lamp post. And if he can do that, using his additional arms during a counter attack would feel so much better. It would show that Jax really does not care who is fighting. And if thats sound to stupid, give him 2 additional arms and a staff, made out of pure godly power, that makes the whole dodge animation of the E, and the normal arms and staff are doing the normal AA animation. But also have to add, that his Q feels so much smoother with this skin, and the W and the third ult passive AA looks neat too.

And like OP said, giving him some new voice lines and a dance for this skin, would IMO complete this skin. Maybe change the face a little bit, but that does not concern me to much. Let's also not forget what ever Main would want to have. A summoner icon of his beloved champion.

If the skin gets some tweaks or not, I'm still going to buy it, because it's still a damn fine skin. Thank you for the person in the Riot team, that decides to make a Jax skin. You have made us a pretty nice Christmas present.

It's unfortunate but they are unlikely to take the time to do this. They need to script out new lines, get hold of a voice actor, do the recording process, edit the lines, ect. This takes quite a bit of time that they didn't plan to put into the skin originally, just like what was said when people wanted something like that for Dragon Sorceress Zyra.

Yes, it would be great for this skin and many others but that's just the way it is.

I doubt they'd want to make 2 legendary skins for the same skin line with no other lower teir skins of the same line.

Well lee sin focused on kicking but the skin changed it to focusing on punching

So it makes sense to give God staff jax an actual weapon

This should be on the PBE Feedback Thread. Anyway I wish they would put his Six Arm to this ULTIMATE. His Ultimate is very underwhelming already, At least give us something excitement every time we Press R, Please RIOT.

I agree, this skin has a potential to be a legendary skin. hope riot has time to make this a legendary one.
