Zed Theory

I have a theory about a potential connection between Zed and Nocturne. The Black Box that Zed opened, contained Nocturne. Long after he was banished from the Kinkou Monastery by Master Kusho, he came back to the temple. When Zed was alone with his master, Zed screamed in pain. The reason for that could have been that Nocturne gave him illusions, that he was attacked (by Nocturne himself or his master). So, Zed fought back and killed Kusho, either because he thought he was Nocturne due to the illusions or because he thought that Kusho tried to killed him (probably again due to Nocturne's illusions).

Some clues that prove (a part of) this theory:

>Nocturne's Lore: "For centuries the practice of "shadow magic" was all but forbidden across Runeterra"

>Zed's Lore: "Shadows enveloped Zed's mind, feeding his bitterness with contempt for the weak, and hinting at an ancient, dark magic.

Okay but why didn't he just apologize then ? I mean, according to your theory, Kusho's death was some kind of unfortunate accident ... So why would Zed get rid of the whole Kinkou ? Start a new order ? There's sadly no real evidence to support your theory. The quote you've taken from Zed's lore doesn't really sound like it was an illusion. Plus let's not forget what Nocturne does : he feeds off of fear, which is not really depicted here :p.

I would imagine a traumatized character like Zed with his resentment, xenophobia, and fear of powerlessness would make him the most satisfying 'meal' for a demonic creature like Nocturne.

A character like Zed is setting himself up for greatness (even if his ambitions are morally wrong) and he could possibly achieve so. But if Nocturne did take notice it would be a downward spiral for Zed's psyche, which is already fragile now that he knows Jhin escaped. Imagine Nocturne buying his time to see Zed achieved his goals and slowly pushing his fears and trauma further until he goes over the edge. Pretty much what Tahm Kench does to his victims, the higher they go the further they fall. Yummy! TahmKench

Doubtful Nocturne himself was inside the box though, but the demon's essence would be linked to those powers inside.

Side thought: I find it funny that Nocturne's Colour Story was set in Piltover when Noc was implied to be formed in Ionia and likely drawn to there most as its the only other place besides Demacia brimming with resentful, traumatized, and scared people. Easy pickings.

I agree with the assertion taht Zed freed Nocturne based on this

"Trapped in the spirit realm, and with precious few intruders to sustain it, Nocturne began to starve. The only thing close to the delectable feasts of fear it had once tasted was when mortal minds unknowingly drifted through the ether in the hours of sleep. Drawn on currents of magic to where the two realms divide—and where peaceful dreams can easily become night terrors—Nocturne found a way to manifest itself into the waking world."

"Drawn on currents of magic to where the two realms divide"

The Kinkou protect that division do they not?

Even if i think that the "Zed/Nocturne" theory is one of the dumbest theories created by fans of LoL and both champions were created with no relation at all in mind... I do think that Riot will change their lore in order to fit the theory, just like they did with the theory of "Darkins are weapons".

Nocturne was a champion whose theme is bases on Nightmares... the fear and terror.... He was like the Freddy Krueger of LoL. Sure, he LOOKS like a shadow, but that is because dark causes fear. Zed has nothing to do with the main theme of Nocturne: Nightmares... The Order of Shadows uses Shadow Techniques, they dont go arround killing people in their dreams with magical mind powers like Nocturne does.

My point is that Shadows and Nightmares are not the same... But it seems that Riot forgot that and decided to put "shadow magic" in the new lore of Nocturne anyways because people wanted to mix two things that are not the same.

Wasn't Nocturne contained for centuries at a tomb in Demacia, though?
