BIG TOP OF POST EDIT: I think this needs saying before the rest of the post since this is picking up momentum. The skin itself is NOT bad. It is actually very good, it just fails to be a good Blood Moon skin. Right now, most of the community seems to agree that a rename would be optimal (Masquerade, Heartseeker, Marquis, or Order of the Lotus all seem like good fits)

Such a change would take minimal work on Riot's part, make lots of community members happy, lets Elise have a quality skin, and offer a comfortable time cushion to design a better Blood Moon Jungler skin in the future.

The remainder of the posts analyzes why the skin not cohesive with the Blood Moon theme, and proposes lots of suggestions for why and what could help improve it.

I've noticed a lot of discussion on Blood Moon Elise lately. I am quite a fan of the blood moon skin line, and was happy to see Elise added. Lots of people don't like the pink, but I agree with what riot has said about her skins: her base skin does have a lot of red, and for her first new purchasable skin, pink is a good direction to take it. There is still something that makes me jittery though...and I think I finally put my finger on it.

Elise is the final member of the blood moon team...and she breaks the aesthetic badly. Compare these images:

Not a huge difference. Doesn't seem that significant to me. Now compare these:

There it is! Most of the blood moon skins take advantage of reds, whites, and blacks. Right now Blood Moon Elise is pink, Blue, and Gold. It sticks out badly, and ruins the aesthetic. To be cohesive, she needs, reds and whites. I agree with the idea of straying from lots of black, but she NEEDS red and white, at least for her mask, if nothing else.

I do agree that it is quite possible for the skin to look too much like base, like so:

But in my opinion this is still better for the team than what is there now.

Now that you can look at comparisons, what are your thoughts?

EDIT: another point that bears mentioning is that her mask doesn't fit the blood moon theme very well. I don't think it is bad, but a horn or two and some white paint could go a long way. This post for reference:

All blood moon masks are thick, with a red and white palate, cover the mouth, and have horns of some fashion. Elise's is Pink and gold, and is mostly dainty filigree, and is only a half mask. It's like comparing these:

Both are good, they just don't belong together.

EDIT2: There have been suggestions that a rename may be better. Compare her to masquerade Evelynn. They share way more visual ques than the Blood Moon Team, in mask shape, colors, attire, and shadow isles ladies. Look at this:

This way, Elise could have a full quality skin (no repetitive colors etc) and still leave one Jungler spot open for the Blood Moon team that fits the aesthetic better.

Plus, they can make an event of the final blood moon release, and have time for a ward skin and icon for skin theme enthusiasts.

For more discussion, who do you think would make a good blood moon jungler in Elise's place?

EDIT3: Now that I think about it, imagine what a spectacular Oni Nocturne would make. He has a humanoid upper half and a spectral lower half. He does have red, black, and white already, but I feel he would make a much more suitable companion on the team than Elise at the moment. It has been ages since he has had a skin too. I mean look at this face: Nocturne Doesn't it just beg for a Blood Moon Mask?

TL;DR Blood Moon Elise is fine standing alone, but looks bad when paired with her team.

The pink doesn't fit, I understand their preference on this but it should remain red if it wants to be apart of the whole blood moon reference, as well that mask.

I don't really understand Riot's argument that she already has red abilities so red would look bad on her. Look at Thresh, he's got both both that's okay. Maybe I'm missing something.

Personally i dont like the Blood Moon Elise skin, i feel it is the worst of the line and even as a stand alone skin its lacking. Its not a bad skin but to me i feel it is just lacking that Blood Moon feel. Admittedly it does look a lot better red than pink, but it still doesnt live up to the other Blood Moon skins. There seems to be a demon/horned mask theme with the others that hers doesnt have. Her outfit is also not as flashy or noticeable as the others, i find i need to zoom in all the way to even see the details of it, whereas the other you can just look at and see the details. Overall its just lackluster to me, but this is just my opinion of course.

I really like the skin, but I just think that it doesn't fit the blood moon theme very well. It doesn't make her look aggressive or ritualistic in those pink clothes; however, the red makes her look a lot more serious.

If this were Popstar Elise, it would be awsome.

But it isn't. I mean, to me, the Akali skin set the standard. The Blood Moon skins are CLASSY themed skins. Even if T and A are all over the place (side boobs honourable mention) on the main design, Blood Moon always seemed to me to take the better parts of traditional asian elegance and cultural influences in place of this cheap pink and skimpy clothing affair.

Dear Rito, namechange it. Make the gold pinks, and sell it in a release bundle with popstar Ahri.

I'll take 0.001% as royalties.

^this. That way those who like the colors/look can buy it, and all those who are unhappy with the issue of it not matching the other Blood Moon will be happy.

No one is happy with it being called Blood Moon because it doesn't look blood moon at all - mask doesn't fit, neither do the colors. Rename it to Masquerade Elise.

Really hope Riot listens, cause right now it looks nice but is a zero fit with Blood Moon, even if you take into account the "open to interpretation from different cultures".

Now's she too red. I agree she should be more red, but not like that, she's pretty much all her gracefulness that the skin is supposed to have. Honestly, I wish they would just rename the skin. It fits the theme, but I think it could still be something else.

i dont play elise. never have. as someone who doesnt care for the champ i will say, i LOVE the skin. BUT what i DONT love is that its counting as a blood moon. the colors are off, and the mask is as well, like you said.

recolor and change the mask? sure. or rename it and make it its own skin/ pair it with someone else similar. hell, add some hearts and now its Heartseeker Elise. which really? that would be awesome. think about it. shes literally going to eat your heart, unlike Ashe and Vayne.

they could then give the last blood moon skin to a jungler like Eve, and that could be a kick start to her VU/GU too

I'll upvote this, Elise should have been dressed up as a Geisha with a simple Kabuki mask, (this way pink could still work) and her spider form would be inspired by Jorōgumo, the spider queen demon of Japanese folklore+^_^+Elise item 3151

You're spot on as far as I'm concerned. I like the skin, it's just not bloodmoon. And the color is the thing that sticks out most to me, but also everything else mentioned here.

TBH I really don't like how the Shadow Isle just took over the Blood Moon Skins.

Before it seemed like an Ionian thing but now its just out of a wack.

Its like Orcs from Mordor going out on a play date with Hobbits.

I think the pink is fine since Pink is a shad of red. It could use to be a tab darker though, that would probably help it blend in without them making it actually red.

I liked the magenta Elise! Simply change the name to masquerade or lotus or something else (not heartseeker), otherwise a great work is defaced!

I liked the original most. I feel that the decorations and textures fit the overall blood moon theme. I also agree with riot that Elise's skin should look different from the original. Pink is the perfect choice.

Sounds like team Blood Moon just doesn't want a terrible jungler.

I love Elise, she's just terrible at what she does.

The skin is fine but it could definitely use a better approach to the blood moon theme. Why isn't the skull mask covering the entire back of the model? Would make for a great approach to the theme.

That Ivory and gold mask you linked above would be awesome if it were the look of the spider.

I say, make Ivory the main color of the skin, and have the pink and black be the highlights. That would go far and it would make the theme a lot more cohesive.

I'd just rename it to like Kabuki Elise then give someone else an Oni style blood moon skin. They could give it to one of the demons of the jungle Lee SIn?

I liked it better in pink personally. It was prettier and more alluring for her entrappment of people. On a side note: Real reason we are twitchy is because we are tired of waiting.

If you realize i think there's a sub theme to the theme's they might be creating because of Vandal Jax with his blue yellow and pink matching the color of Blood Moon Elise kind of an odd assumption maybe it's lore based. I believe riot has good enough reasoning behind the coloring of the skin.

I like this skin the way it is and I like the name as well. I mean the Blood Moon is a group of ninja, samurai, and or assassins. Now I'm pretty sure we have all seen many female assassins depicted in a style similar to this Elise skin. So what it's pink, pink is just a lighter shade of red lol and isn't Shen's Blood Moon skin orange for the most part O.O? One last thought.. aren't most leaders of a group different from their subordinates in appearance and skill :P
