Questions on Art and Animation

I am starting college this semester and I have always really wanted to study art but couldn't really decide what to do, or could do, with a art degree until I started looking at animation. Unfortunately I never had the opportunity to take art classes in high school and I mainly taught myself through YouTube videos. I only draw with paper and pencil and I was wondering what software and tools I would need to practice with on my computer?

Well here are some more questions in bullet format because I am terrible at writing down my own thoughts. :P -What are some good sites or videos to learn more online?

• What level would I be expect to be at to become a major in art and animation?

I Honestly felt like I had more questions but this is all I could think of when I sat down to type.

Any advice or experience would be appreciated. Sorry If I seem kind of vague :/
