So I love Yasuo but hate his new skin, and I'm afraid he wont get another of this caliber.

So I appreciate the concept of order vs. chaos, Riven vs Yasuo and all, but when it comes to his new skin I have a few problems, and what it all boils down to is I feel like the new skin disregards Yasuo's character to explore a more demonic route. I would be fine with this, if it hadn't already been done once with his Bloodmoon Yasuo skin. At the same time Riven is now receiving her second (third?) redemption/angelic/heroic skin. The skins nice and all, but I just don't feel any desire to own it. I liked Yasuo to begin with because he was a guy who made a mistake, owned up to it, but did not simply roll over and accept unjust punishment. That to me showed character, potential for growth into a much more heroic, light hearted kind of hero, instead of this kind of lawful neutral he is at the start of his journey. I guess it feels like to me they came up with the riven skin, then made an opposite just to have a dynamic for the marketing. TLDR I think it forgets about Yasuo himself to make something that will sell, without adding anything to him as any skin I can think of does. (I.e. Arcade skins show a more fun side to their personality, or the mecha skins show what would happen if Vikor wins, etc.)

Anyone else feel like this?

A small thing about this post; if you make a poll, keep it simple. Don't add your own opinions as to why you think people would agree or disagree with you. There can be a lot of reasons why people disagree or agree with you.

I don't like this skin because I find it too flashy and and wish they would tone it down a bit, but I like the opposing nature to the default skin, there are alot of legendaries that do this that I like.

It's his weapon and motif man. There is so much demonic lore/legend in Chinese/Janapnese culture. I thought for sure it was going to be "demon blade " Yasuo in reference to one of the legends about Muramasa, the sword Smith who made blood thirsty blades by forging a pact with demons.

Been a while since I've actually read any of that, but I'm pretty sure it's something like that.

It's a skin..... There would be no point in making skins if it didn't change his character. Like what even.....[zombie-brand-facepalm]

As far as similar, he has a cowboy skin, robotic skin, and a blood moon skin. Blood moon is not a demon......

Tbh i think it's quite true to yasuo as a character while also exploring an AU. If anything, it was bloodmoon that was a huge departure from yasuo's character, he was a zealous executioner, little more little less.

What you can get out of the interactions between angel riven and demon yasuo is a bit of a twisted version of their current lore, and while nothing is directly stated there is so much implied in his and her behavior that gets my mind racing. Yasuo and riven in the standard lore are both very similar sorts of characters. Blademasters who have experienced great betrayal/tragedy. The events in their lives were simply reversed like so: Riven did not stand by her convictions during the invasion of Ionia, and now that she has been betrayed she lets her honor guide her and seeks redemption rather than aiding in destruction. Yasuo is the opposite, he disobeyed orders in order to follow his own convictions and that led to him being betrayed. Now his convictions have been taken from him, and he is forced into a life that sullies his honor and surrounds him with tragedy.

Angel Riven and Demon Yasuo clearly know each other. Perhaps they were close friends, or even lovers as their interactions seem to suggest, but tragedy of some sort led them both to opposite paths, much like in the main lore. Riven has immersed herself in her honor, in rules, in order, parodying her usual self to the extreme, and conversely Yasuo has grown extremely bitter, his VO isn't just him glorifying chaos and death. He wants to tear the existing system down, he sees it as a restriction that demands perfection and seeks to control everyone. Yasuo sees himself as fighting for a sort of freedom for the world, and clearly has a vendetta against the light. Perhaps he sacrificed everything (it at least mentions his soul) in order to defeat the system that opposes his ideals. Yasuo hasn't simply become a creature born dark and brooding, his pride and conviction led him to a path that opposes the pride and conviction of Riven.

Riven fights for her ideals through order, and Yasuo, much like how his default lore forces him on an inglorious, bloody, dirty path, has ended up in a similar position in the cosmic battle. He is still holding by his convictions, but the stakes are higher and he has had to sacrifice much more.

At least that's what I've concluded after listening to the VO yasuo and his interactions with Riven. I think you should take a closer look at the skin. I understand if the aesthetics may not appeal to you, but you may find there's more to the skin when you listen to what he and Riven have to say.

I agree that there is a ton of overlap with this skin. It would have been nice to expand his collection a bit instead of doing something so similar.

hmmmm, total speculation but to try and cover ritos ass maybe think of it like Skins are alternate fantasies right? Maybe in almost every alternate universe yasuo travels a darker road like blood moon or this demonic, because in the real runterra he is so far away from that? Like in reality he would be tempted to, but never succumb to those types of powers, so in many alternate forms he does. Conversely, maybe Riven would in the real runterra easily succumb to anything that gives her power, and thus most her skins need to "redeem" her.

Quite a stretch but yeah, to be fair most folks i think like bunny riv and project yas most of all anyways which are much more neutral, so that helps a bit. It would have been cool to see a super demonic riven and a holy yasuo tho, gotta finish my portal gun and find that timeline.

Oh look another yasuo crybaby player thinking riot giving him tons of high ending skins in a shorter span than train-bullet is not enuff for "muh concepts"

Be happy they launched a second legendary skin for the posterboy in a 1 year span while there are reworked champs out there who are lacking skins for years.

What you're looking for is what is (probably) going on in his canon lore, not skins.

These 2 skins are about lawful/order and chaos/darkness opposition, none of them is "good" as one is the epitome of bigotry and control and the other of anarchy and suffering.

They chose Yasuo and Riven probably because they are facets of the same heroic figure, the same universe but on 2 different sides and is also a way to enforce their relationship.

I really like their dialogues because it's not just plain "I will kill you!" stuff, they also seem to share a bond (ship intensifies) and both struggle at facing each other even though they yearn to fight.
