Malphite L o r e + in game quotes

So, I made another post from before asking about what people thought about the new lore and what not. (https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/story-art/dT8GNQzq-the-new-lore-rocks) I do agree on what others have said on bringing back the journal of justice and some old aspects of the lore, but one comment about malphite made me curious.

I personally like his present lore, a rock like creature part of an old world of harmony and balance. (Old doesn't mean it's bad, I think it is pretty creative) However, unlike the new update champions I feel like his quotes don't match. His quotes are kind of funny with "rock solid" and other rock puns, but this part of the lore, "Malphite has always strived to live up to his full potential, as his own personal part of the whole, serving the role of a distinguished creature questing to enforce his people's flawless vision of order" I thought could be emphasized more. It would be nice to see this giant want to place a gentle, invigorating, and inspiring cast on other champions... (considering how chaotic everything is). I'm not sure, but I want to know what others think about. I don't play Malphite much (except for good ol' ARAM :B )

For someone like him who is against magic users, maybe make him veer towards liking some chill ionians and what not.

Overall I'd be ok with a complete rewrite for his lore. His current one just feels disconnected from pretty much everything and doesn't explain much about him.

I've never been that interested in Malphite's old lore, as the way it was structured was rather boring and trivial, which made it harder to be appreciable.

Who cares that Malphite is kinda alien, he joins a long list of still vague ones. Who cares about the Monolith, it never played into anything else within the lore ... unfortunately that's as far as his lore ever came in about 9 years since release (wow talk about forgotten).

I guess the only remotely interesting thing about his motivations is how the hell would a giant rock thing bring order into a world of individuals? But that's not what I would call compelling, so much as well that seems like an ambitious task.

In my opnion since Malphite had little in the way of lore to begin with, I'd much rather see the writers start from scratch whit his lore. I'd don't expect Malph to be the most compelling or complex character, just so long as there's a more refreshing narrative for him to thrive in.

I'd embrace the idea if Malph was a divergent being to the Freljord siblings (random idea) than be interested if his future LU had the same but better version of his old lore. In a similar fashion, I'd rather entirely different lore for Brand too but his mini-bio update didn't indulge in that possibility.

I adore Malph. I've been playing this big lovable rock for seven or eight years. I also love Lore, and I've been making dumb posts about it for about that long.

Even I am not invested in Malphite's Lore.

It's not that it's necessarily bad. I don't even think it is, it's a cool concept. The issue is twofold:

  1. It's incredibly vague. Malphite values order over chaos. Okay, cool. What's Chaos to him? Is it the Void? Noxus? Zaun? Where in Runeterra even is Malphite? What is his goal, really? He's "struggling to find a new role worthy of the last of his kind", but we don't know what any other members of his kind even did.

  2. It does not fit his VO characterization at all. Malphite was a very early champion, and it shows. Malphite has, according to the LolWiki, a total of fifteen lines. Five of these are variants on "okay". His other largest selection of lines, his attacking lines, include: "Smash" "Hurt" "Kill" "Die" "Pain" and "Stay down!". If Malphite is a noble protector of balance, why is he just really invested in beating the shit out of Blue Caster Minion?

There are a lot of directions I think a Malphite rework could go.

He's probably not FROM SPACE anymore. Y'all remember when Taric was from space? And Nasus and Renekton? That seems to be going away, with Narrative's desire to integrate champions into the world. Where could he be from? My gut instinct is Targon, because he's like...a mountain and all, but I don't know if Riot would want to introduce another Aspect so quickly after Zoe.

I'd personally like to see Malphite as a character similar to Bard. To maintain some of his old identity, he can still be trying to preserve balance, but as a much more physical presence, rather than Bard, who is a magical/spiritual one. He is a wandering elemental creature, perhaps created during the Rune Wars and now adamant on stopping further destruction of Runeterra. Heck, maybe he's the spirit of Runeterra itself, clad in a body of its own earth to defend itself.

I'm honestly just spitballing, but I think Malphite has a lot of potential, and I don't think many people would be too crushed to see his Space Rock thing go.
