Karma's Loss of Balance (Lore Changes)
Topic This is a post about the changes in Karma's lore. I give my personal opinion on certain plot points in the story and Darha/Karma's character. The main idea here is for Karma to be about balance between violence and peace once again.
Personal Things Alright, here is a bit of a disclaimer for anyone reading. I have been playing LoL for a little over a year. I have been playing Karma pretty much since I started, and have about 430,000 points on her. This is my first time writing a post on the forums, and I probably will not write another one for a long time. This is a pretty big deal to me, although I never really evaluated Karma’s previous lore, appearance, and character as anything more but “Hey, that’s pretty cool, she’s kinda like me”. The change in her lore has kind of shaken something in me… I feel like the champion I play so often is not mine anymore. I suppose this goes hand in hand with any updates in champions, and I cannot even speak for the Karma mains that were here before her rework. Nevertheless, I am asking for one factor to remain in Karma’s lore, her ideal of balance. I saw Scathlocke’s comments on this post ([https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/story-art/iBTaoJca-a-retrospective-on-karmas-lore]) and I made a comment, but knowing that my posts actually can be read by Rioters, I feel like I should make a bigger noise to really push this change. The comment doesn’t hint at anything definitive in change, so I will put my thoughts here.
The Story I do see that the story is up for changes! I enjoyed how the position of Karma came to Darha, with the whole Avatar-like reincarnation thing. Although, it is a little off from her personality of being strong-willed and independent. If she had always been that way, I think it is odd that she just got chosen to be the next Karma, and did not earn her spot there. In her previous story, I always imagined her as a hard worker, who worked her way to the top of the political ladder for the good of Ionia, and to make sure extremists did not get their way in leading it. Also, about the voices… I do not think Darha should be tortured by them. Why would her past reincarnations make her feel crazy? She should be at peace with them somewhat, even if she is confused about why she has them. Detail in the visions would be appreciated, if she has such a reaction to them. Maybe that would justify how she feels about them. I do not like how the monks come to her to reveal that she is the next Karma, Darha should seek the answer for herself. She chooses to just suffer with maddening visions in her hut rather than look for the solution! This seems unlike what a motivated person would do. Karma seems to be the pacifist extreme, and Darha is the warmonger extreme. Darha apparently just gives into the Karma extreme, and loses her true self to what her past lives are saying. What a pushover she looks like at this point! Darha needs to take Karma into a new direction, to silence the voices, to change their minds, anything to prove how strong-willed she is claimed to be! Where is the point in establishing Darha as a “headstrong and independent” girl, if only to silence those qualities? I do not want Darha to completely disrespect her past lives. I want her to come to terms with them, and for there to be a true middle-ground. Overall, I want Darha to be true to herself, and find balance. That is the biggest thing I want for Karma, is for her to be a symbol of balance!
