Why does Star Guardian Soraka have a familiar spirit?

I just don't find it very fitting to her skin. SG Poppy or Lux don't have a familiar and for good reason. From the previews that I see the familiar for Soraka is nowhere to be seen unless you recall as opposed to the other SG skins were they're there for one (or more) of the champions attacks/abilities (or to switch weapons like Jinx) as cute as I think all the familiars are I just don't think there's any reason why SG Soraka should have one.
