Headless Mordekaiser, does it mean something?

Vlad's color story, "Art is Life", had a headless statue of Mordekaiser in his courtyard. At the time I thought it was simply Vladimir being an artsy-fartsy dilittante but as it turns out, Mordekaiser actually appears to be headless inside the realm of death (eerily only sporting a crown floating where his head should be).

I'm just wondering, is this headless form of Morde important or alluding to something within the Death Realm? And where does the crown come from? Did Mordekaiser create it himself? Or is it an artifact from the realm itself maybe?

Back before his lore update that's coming out tomorrow, Morde's fall was engineered by someone stealing his skull. He needed his full skeleton assembled to be revived by his minions, so the missing skull prevented that. Vlad's headless Mordekaiser fountain is a huge middle finger to Mordekaiser by commemorating his downfall.

I don't think any of his body is within that armor. Sure there are parts of him that look like ribs, if you look closer, you see its just part of the armor... especially when looking at his in game model.
