What if....? (A lore retcon/suggestion/proposal RANT, REALLY RANT thing) - Frustrated writer
INTRO:
Okay so with all the retconning going on, I just wanted to throw in some cents as to how to (possibly) mesh together a new lore with the old, and with the metagame: players, events like the all-stars, etc. and even bring back lore matches ilke Iona vs Noxus. Please feel free to chip in. Plot holes might be present but (I think) there aren't any.
soooo.. here we go?
**OVERVIEW: **
So what if Scattered across Valoran are places of energy, which are now places of political, and military interest. We have the Summoner's Rift, Kalamanda, The Howling Abyss as examples. Metagame-wise summoners can now be ancient energies / beings that are tied to these places, and somehow our champions feel their presence and perhaps guidance when in the vicinity. That way summoners can only affect lore when a match takes place.
**NOXUS: **
What if Noxus finally makes a move to take control of these points of power? What if the military powerhouse that is finally lives up to its name?
DEMACIA:
They'd want to preemptively secure the same areas to prevent Noxus from its expansion.
OTHER CITY-STATES:
What if they also had their own agenda in these places? New hextech power-sources for Piltover? Zuan experimentation? Bilgewater black market goods that are mined from Kalamanda?
SUMMONERS RIFT, AND OTHER MAPS
What if the Summoners rift is just one of many places of ancient and arcane energy? What if there are other rifts? to fight over based on the above? Baron can now be a species drawn to the arcane energy, and not simply a unique creature. We can now skin the map to reflect its location: Iona, Demacia, Noxus, etc. This helps us "travel" across the land and experience the aesthetic of all these different locations via where a certain rift is located.
Baron will still be there as a powerful worm drawn to the place of power (its respawn can now be explained as simply a new worm arriving?). And now there's a reason for representatives / champions to be on the map.
Its name now implies that its a rift in the world where champions can "feel," or perhaps even "commune" with these ancient beings called summoners?
We now can have lore-matches similiar to Iona Vs Noxus. Now there's a reason for different cities to be fighting for control of all of these rifts. Control of a Rift and its nexuses can furhter a city's agenda. Noxus will have a new power-source, base of operations, etc. for example.
Meta-game wise, here's an example. Riot decides that Noxus finally makes a follow up on their invasion into Iona. The match takes place on an Ionian skinned rift, and say Noxus wins again. We can now have new skins for the champs in that match based on whether they lost or won. And the lore can no push forward again, we can even allow the players to decide what Noxus does after the victory, etc. etc. I think it opens up a lot of possibilities. Rematches on the same skinned rift are now also possible.
This also works for our other currently existing maps. What if the Howling Abyss fell under the control of Sejuani? What if Demacian commandos secured Kalamanda? We'd have aesthetic additions to reflect that, a lore match maybe, and the lore can push forward again.
It'll also help develop the champions lore. What happend to Yi after the fall of Ionia (Yes, I want Noxus to win)? What happened to his friends?
We get to experience the culture and aesthetic of the entire lore this way (I think), we get to participate, and we even still stay as summoners. We still have that "voice in the head of a champion" description.
And lore-wise, champions can apparently die (Sion). But what if Garen gets assassinated by Katarina (finally). Does that give us a zombie Garen skin? A Grieving Katarina skin? Garen will still be a playable champion, but in lore matches he's auto-banned bec. he's dead. Will he be resurrected using ancient magic? Anything's possible.
Anyways, 12 AM rant, I'm off to bed. Just needed to write it down where people can also contribute. Thanks for reading!
