adding more lore to gameplay

just a simple thought: Sometimes the game just feels a little bit too much based on balance and meta, op-champs and so on...the lore is simply staying in the background. y u know for example rise of Shurima or the Freljord-battle. It just doesnt matter where your champ comes from or what he did in his fraction. And to be honest Rito is doing a lot of great lore things (think of of jinx's video or some other teasers and forget Lee , nobody likes him)

So what would happen if we would have a map of Runeterra with its fractions and landscapes in the actual client?

Riot could mark the borders of the fractions. The borders of the fractions could be stretched with the help of the playerbase or different events. For example Riot could announce a war between Ionia and Noxus and the playerbase decide indirectly whos the winner. There are a few ways:

  1. You could choose a fraction in your client (maybe with summoner icons like in the Freljord event). Based on your perfomance in your game, your fraction (e.g. Ionia or Piltover) gains more Influence and its borders. To prevent favoritism (hi Team Instinct) we couls add a upper limit. Maybe enable fraction switch with IP.

  2. See above...just choose ur fraction before every game and get minigames like killing special cahmps from enemy fractions (like Ashe Sejuani Lissandra minigame) based on the won minigames u empower ur fraction, win wars against others and stretch its borders.

  3. Connect it to champions: Every champ influences his fractions by his ingame-perfomance. The better the perfomance, the more powerfull is that fraction. Just add upper limit for every champ so that meta-champs on one-trick-ponies dont have too much influence.

4.see above...just that the champion with the highest payerbase, winrate, performance, or eventbased stuff becomes the leader of the fraation for a few days and people who played this champs the last days ( or mains....mastery points will get a new meaning ) decide which enemy fraction will get attacked next. Maybe add a factor to that system that leader champs like Swain Karma JarvanIV or champs with low playerbase become the "weekly" leader of the fraction more often. Srsly this could maybe influence DIVERSITY ingame.

  1. just use all together..mix them...and add special events :
  • like battle for Freljord,
  • new champions could influence their fractions (AurelionSol , Azir could influence Targon's ans Shurima's Power at his release )
  • Riot announces wars ( Noxus vs Demacia)

All Players should get some rewards ( symbols, IP, mastery icons...........) if their fraction is powerful. just imagine how fun would it be if ur Kindom wins wars und can influence the lore. If u dont know what I'm saying just imagine the game board game "Risiko" just with the different cities and continents of LOL. Maybe it could help to connect the lore with ingame stuff.

There are a few problems I see with this:

  1. it literally is bound to divide up the player base
  2. special rewards are bound to go to the factions with the highest number of players and most op champs
  3. factions with weak champs are bound to be forgotten and become an Urgot faction
  4. it restricts the narrative team's influence on the lore, as they would find themselves writing more about player events than coming up with original content.

I am not trying to hate on your post, in fact I support this idea of implenting the lore into the game this way and I hope once all of the lore retcons are over and Valoran as a whole is ready to move forward lorewise, that we see these kinds of events. Of course however it would have to be on a much more scaled down verison but following the same principal and concept.

Targon for the win!!!
