Spears and LoL, and why I think we need another spear user.

What were the most influential weapons in history? The club(pre-history), the Spear, the sword, the bow, the spear again sometime around greek/roman civilization with the use of it in a phalanx. We have pantheon for that. During Chinas very turbulent history as well. We have Xin Zhao for that. You have the English longbow and the crossbow. Then we have firearms and all the stuff they did for weaponry. What we don't have is any fantasy styled spear users that wield a spear. I say this by the style of weapon that a spear is. It can be thrown (Kalista) It can be lunged with and stabbed with (Xin and Panth) but no ones using it to control and safely keep their distance from an opponent.

The spear for that reason is one of the strongest and most versatile weapons in LoL, and none of the champs are using it in such a way. If anyone has read the Stormlight Archive series by Brandon Sanderson. The way Kaladin uses the spear in those books is exactly what id like to see in a LoL character. Xin just runs at people. He has no disengage which is what the spear is best at. Pantheon is also extremely short range but he is more the greek/roman gladiator style. Id like to see a Champ use the spear like a martial artist. Xin doesnt quite fit that theme currently because his is more brute force and just running at people. Kalista doesnt either because she throws her spear and thats the only real attack she has besides her rend. I dont consider that giant thing J4 has a spear really, more of a poleaxe or halberd/axe thing. Panth has his defined area and its also more brute force than grace and martial pose. So maybe this would give a riot dev an idea? Id love to see it. The spear is my favorite weapon and i feel like its under represented compared to the sword. The sword was a nobles weapon but the spear was the common mans vice. He lived and died by it. Thanks for taking the time to read. Sorry if this is messy I might be on ambien right now.

Xin had no disengage...ult?

No champion with martial poise.... Literally the name of kalista passive.

Just things I noticed.

Pantheon is also extremely short range but he is more the greek/roman gladiator style.

He don't have nothing of roman, is it only a pseudo-spartan.

About spear-users: you forget Jarvan.

And also, the best user of this defensive style combat with spears is Azir. He pretty much lives on "phalanx" theme

Hecarim JarvanIV Kalista Kayn Kled Nasus Nidalee Pantheon XinZhao

All use polearms.

Compared to:

Darius DrMundo Olaf Renekton Sion

Who use axes.

Kled's is a poleaxe, so his counts as both I suppose, but still. Plenty of polearms here.

Are we ignoring the fact that we still have no champion with nuchucks?

''Spears and LoL, and why I think we need another spear user.''

No we don't, 3 spear champions is enough. There can be many ways to use a weapon and for every way It doesn't mean we need another champions that uses it. I would rather have a cool concept than having a boring spear user.

Not saying we can't have another spear champion, but It would be much much better to don't have a champion just because it uses spear in that way. It shouldn't be like ''whatever we have next, It should be a spear user with this fight style''.

Idk. Riot has stated before that polearm weapons are difficult because of the struggle to distinguish the champions from eachother that use them.
