Map Boundaries

This is probably a silly question, but I just want to confirm something.

Is the world of Runeterra larger than Valoran, than Demacia and Noxus and Ionia and the Freljord? If Valoran is the primary continent the story is being told on, does that mean there are other lands past the boundaries of the "Map of Runeterra" page? Or is it more akin to those old school JRPG maps that loop around once you hit the "edge?"

Basically, does the "globe" of Runeterra look like this, looping from Demacia to the Ionian isles,

or like this, where, once you get past Demacia or Ionia, here there be dragons?

Or rather, less metaphorically, the Runeterra map shows a little over 1/6th of the surface of the planet - we've not talked about what's beyond there (dragons!) but there's definitely room to expand.

I've seen some players theorize that it's mostly water, but I have no clue where they've got that idea from.

Maybe in the same way our own world does. I think human conflict is fractal - you can zoom in or out to any scale, and still find it.

Not just in between humans, recent studies have proven that even preganancy one of the most symbolic symbols for love, intimacy and boundless giving between a mother and child is somewhat sociopathic, with certain immune cells in the mother body treating the fetus as a pathogen or parasite and regulating the amount of blood flow and nutrients it can steal.

Conversely transplanting an embryo in mice anywhere other than the womb (in the brain, liver what have you) every time the embryo went wild. Placental cells rampaged through surrounding tissues, slaughtering everything in their path as they hunted for arteries to sate their thirst for nutrients.

If conflict can be found even in maternity than perhaps it's just an inherent part of our nature.

If there is a significant amount of interesting things happening in those unknown parts of the world, it makes me wonder what exactly has kept the regions we know and love from interacting with them (if they even know what's beyond their lands).

I'd like to think that Targon has left a more significant mark on those parts of the world. For a bunch of space-spirit-gods, they don't seem to have touched much beyond the Shuriman continent.

(We might also finally find out about the Ruined King's kingdom)

Actually, most people are pretty sure the 'Ruined King' is a reference to the dude who ended up turning the blessed isles into the shadow isles. There are plenty of references in the lore, such as Yorick, Hecarim, etc.

I'm talking about the where the Ruined King came from, not about what he did.

The Blessed/Shadow Isles and the Ruined King's kingdom are not the same thing.

i cant wait for my theory to be canon. Cho'gath lives in a continent called the dark continent where he is the king and void consumed all of the resources in that continent.

Yeah, it's been stated that there is more to the world of Runeterra. More continents that can be ~~created~~ explored with it's own potential stories, regions/factions, champs & 6-7 more world ending threats.

Chances are Riot is not sure either - they are probably leaving it intentionally unknown so there is room to expand later.

This is pretty standard for worldbuilding, only as much as is needed is revealed, even if there is a rough outline the writers use for consistency.

Oh, I know. I really know. But we're not saying yet - not when there are three enormous continents to deal with at the moment. It'll be a big deal when we scroll the map a bit more.
