What ever happened to champs "joining the league"?

If you look in some of the older champions lore, it often says something about that champ choosing to join the league of legends. I can't remember seeing this on any recent champions... Don't get me wrong, i think lately Riot has been doing well on lore. Ekko's video and comic were awesome, and gave us some insight on his background. The recently released story on Kindred was very intriguing and well written. I'm just wondering if the whole concept of the league itself is still going to be a thing. And if not, are they going to rework all the older champions lore? Leave ur comment if u feel like it :)

You must have missed the retcon event.

The 'Institute of War' and the Summoners (the League of Legends, essentially) have been removed from the world's lore. How much and to what extent isn't clear, but the core intellectual property of Champions, Runeterra, etc, all exist in a different bubble now.

That aside, Varus Varus was the last champion whose background referenced the league. By around mid 2012 the league was NEVER mentioned again. Darius Darius came out after Varus, and his background does not mention the league, neither does Draven Draven's or anyone else that followed. You MIGHT remember the Journal of Justice. The start of Season 2 (2012) would have marked the start of Volume Two, but it was canceled. It was removed from being readable in the client in February of 2014. What happened in September 2014 was sudden,but not at all unexpected. Many people saw something like it coming sooner or later in 2013 -that year many made posts like yours. The following year, when the announcement was made the forums....were flooded with outrage that lasted for months. Albeit today, it seems to have simmered down and really all but disappeared.

Its not really a recent thing anymore. Varus is the last champion who mentions the LoL in his lore. And that was May 2012. The League has not existed longer than did exist at this point.
