Project Skin Line Lore (Theories)

So I think I’ve figured out the Project lore. It's all patch work because it has never directly told to us. Project is either a Piltover or Zaun based program (I think Zaun tbh), designed to cybernetically enhance humans. On a post I found a while back, the Devs claimed that to accept the power of the Project Program, one must surrender their very humanity to the technology. Additionally, Project Yi and Project Ashe both have voice lines about how their memories were wiped, so as part of surrendering their humanity, they also lose their memories. How do they have certain memories though? Well everyone sought out Project's power for a reason. For Yi, he has flashbacks of Ionia's fall, and how he failed to protect it. Everyone else among the Project cast also has a likely reason for seeking Project's power.

Leona - her failure to protect the Solari Elders Lucian - to avenge Senna Yasuo - to seek the truth Fiora – to restore her family's honor? ( I'm not super familiar with her lore) Ashe – to unite the Freljord Ekko – because of his failure to prevent the death of his friend.

Katarina and Zed both likely joined because of the program’s promise of power, to which I believe that power is very important for people like Zed and Katarina. As a result, they were unable to keep control of themselves, and surrendered their humanity entirely to the program. The others, however, may have joined for reasons related to their very humanity, allowing them to keep control and defy the program (despite having lost their memories), whose true purpose was never actually to give power, but to create human superweapon slaves ("Neon lights blind us from the truth"). It would stand to reason that because they defy the program, and consider themselves still human, that’s the reason why Zed and Katarina fight the others. This is all theory of course, but it’s the best I’ve got based off of the little snippets of information Riot has teased to us with each skin’s release. Share this with anyone you know who might be interested and let me know what you guys think :D

From what I know and can remember, I did not sign up for this. I was taken after Ionia was attacked. I do not recall who or why, but I can see images of the battles and who defeated me. It is now a part of me, this.. PROJECT. It's a part of us all now. We each fight for our own personal goals as we always have, that much is unchanged. What has changed is our desire to work together towards a common goal: The freedom of others put into this PROJECT program, and to find out the truth behind our transformation.

The reason I fight is to redeem myself. I am Master Yi. This is a title that I cannot allow to be taken lightly; I may have lost my original body, but my mind and skill are still in tact. The art of Wuju can only grow exponentially from here.

from the way they showed YI, its seems becoming PROJECTED (patent pending) seems to be forceful in nature. Yi really didn't seem like a consented.

From what I can tell, none of the characters joined by "Consent" excluding Zed and Katarina. It seems like yet another "Viktor/someone wanted to take over the world" scheme. He kidnaps people, does cybernetic surgery on them by force, and programs them to be his elite assassins. Because it was by force, these characters rebel against the programming put into them and work together to fight back. Katarina and Zed do not fight back because they do not want to, or are fully programmed to do the "master's" bidding.

It could even be possible that in this 'future Runeterra' most of the characters are already augmented for civil purposes. Leona very well could have been augmented before to help her in war times, but as I stated before, was kidnapped and set up to be reprogrammed.

Ashe seems to be the leader of the rebellion, with Ekko as second in command, and Yi following suite as strike force captain.

Zed seems to be just a full on robot with his personality, and possibly mass produced. Him with this skin in All for One would be 100% canon in my opinion. Katarina seems to just be okay with this, or is just unfortunate the rebellion couldn't get to her in time.

I know they said recently they won't be doing "Big events" any time soon, but I feel like this is such a large concept that can be expanded upon, it deserves one. At some point.

I think it's pretty good, but i wanna know if there is any connection between project en program( program lissandra etc.) I rly wanna know your opinion about this topic...

The best snippet of lore to come out of this is Project Ashe's line to a friendly Project Yasuo. She mentions something about them having his brother, Yone, but he is not lost. I wonder if thats supposed to reference Project Yi who I always thought from his voicelines was just Yi's personality and mind placed into a new body, one I believe could be Yone.

Otherwise, they may make another character with a release skin of Project. Personally, I think Yone could have been brought back, somehow. Project or otherwise.

Yas's lore states that as soon as he buried him, he left immediately without time to mourn, he knew others would be behind him to finish the task of bringing him to justice. It isn't so far fetched to believe that in a universe where a pirate lost half his body after being blown up and almost drowned, that someone dark and brooding could have brought back this man to serve HIS/HER purposes, using his rage for his brothers defiance as fuel. Or, it would be a Viktor-esque thing, and Yone would be brought back as a half machine.

Who knows though, might just be a fun quote Riot put in there for P:Ashe.

Made a 25 minute long discussion on this, it was before the disruption trailer but I still think most of it is valid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NZHhGa809Q

Basically the scientists behind PROJECT wanted to use them as weapons, as Ashe has said before "We are humans, not weapons". Whatever promise the scientists gave to them in order for them to accept the use of their bodies, they were probably not aware that it would begin to wipe away their humanity. Zed and Katarina have not surrendered their humanity to the program, they still have their humanity. Did Zed surrender his humanity when he killed his master and decided to gain the power of the shadows? No. He was always like that given what the lore states, so it makes sense for him to choose to be evil to acquire more power. PROJECT Katarina and Zed are not the only enemies as the battlecast have revealed to be in the same timeline as them as Battlecast Vel Koz was teased in the splash art of Katarina. Zed nor Katarina were shown being dead even in this trailer. When you look at the line that ashe says, "As long as you refuse to obey, you are human". Zed and Katarina are refusing to obey to Ashe's cooperation, making them human. Even in the interactions Ashe has with them, she talks to them like they have their own consciousness and can be convinced. Like I said in the trailer I believe Katarina will end up being on their side at the end of this. This is likely to eventually lead to a good PROJECT vs Battlecast event. Having Viktor headline as the big enemy because I'm pretty sure he was responsible for making Battlecasts to begin with. Wasn't he the one that teased battlecast champions before they came out? http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/story-art/qOer78rP-taking-a-deep-look-into-project-universe

I'm pretty sure that the PROJECT lineup works like this:

What we know:

  • There is a connection between the Battlecast skins and the PROJECT skins, we've seen this from Battlecast appearances in background of PROJECT skins
  • If there's a connection there, than there is a connection with Viktor
  • Viktor wants to turn everyone into emotionless machines stripped of humanity
  • The PROJECT skins take place far into the future
  • Jayce lives to defend against Viktor and his Evolution
  • Jayce has created "The Resistance" a team that fights against Viktor and his Evolution to preserve humanity
  • Ashe says this: "We aren't weapons, we're human beings. So long as you** refuse to obey**... You are a human."
  • Ashe also says: "Join the Resistance!"
  • Jayce's current faction on his wiki is set to "The Resistance"

So what can we deduce from this? Well it sounds like in the future, Viktor and his "acolytes" are able to accelerate the Glorious Evolution and gain the upper hand. Creating an army of fighters that do his bidding. They are in essence weapons to Viktor's "Glorious Evolution", and the only thing standing in his path is from complete control is "The Resistance."

It is however possible that Jayce is no longer alive in this future universe, and that "The Resistance" is made up of those who believed in Jayce and his cause.

More info found here that further connects everything:

tl:dr

Jayce Jayce (The Resistance) vs. Viktor Viktor (The Evolution)

(Though Jayce might be dead)

This is incredibly good and thoughtful. I believe Fiora joined because she seeks a good challenge and maybe cyborg enhancements will present her with worthy opponents
